I really get no respect in my car. When I have my windows up I can get a litle more places because I have limo tint, but when my windows are down and people see that i am an 18 year old guy driving a BMW, its a bit harder. Other people dont like me at my school because...im an 18 year old driving a bmw. Even when a lot of them are driving around in mercedes and new honda's and h1's...still they give me sh**.

No offense but people aren't going to "notice" an e36. There are so many, they kind of blend in. I don't think people really care who's driving what if it's an older car.

I think "cracky" knows what he's talking about since he's experienced it. After all, an old BMW is still a BMW... I think we all know that fact =D It's just a badge thing, people see it, some are jealous (some obviously so) and others' really don't give a hoot. Im on my "Ps", which is the provisonal licence here in Aus land, and I was driving in a courtesy car I bribed my Dad into letting me take for the day and I was followed by a group of young people also on their Ps who eventually passed with their windows down, yelling something inaudible. Blah to them me thinks.

I drove a bmw at 18 too, whats your point? I know how it was and typically had more compliments (from girls non-the-less [:I]) than insults.

I'm glad you guys have had compliments, seems like when I drive it I get the whole "rich kid" syndrome going on. Hence the situation I was in not long ago. It doesn't bother me a whole deal anyway. Quite frankly I don't give a frick what they think. I love it, what else matters?

Well it is probably worse for you since cars are so much more expensive in Australia and you have a brand new Bimmer.

Around here in Northern NJ/NYC, you really have to have something above the range of a 3-Series in order to stand out. Most people think the 3-Series is actually a kids' car...they are shocked when I tell them the 3-Series is targeted at 40-50 year olds. Then I say, "Do you honestly think BMW relies on successful sales of the 3-Series based on teenagers' parents paying for their car?" and then they they come back down to Earth.

Probably right, you don't exactly see too many of them here. Of course the 3 series is still the most common to see because it is the most affordable (was - enter the 1 series) But anyway, you get used to it and the majority of people don't really care either.

It's odd how you get this sort of patriotic feeling when you drive next to another Bimmer though, almost as if the two drivers automatically respect each other, as if you both understand the delight of driving such a car.

I've gotten my share compliments but because of the type of school i go to, ya know the one in the district that is the richest and has the most spoiled kids, so i actually get a lot more sh** then i do compliments. Combine that with the fact that i live in a pretty nice neighborhood (half mill + houses) the type of neighborhood where 25 is way too fast for a residential area, i dont get much love. Thats the explanation for anyone who kinda knows me.

Now the reputation that BMW has built for themselves, the high class luxury sports car kinda image, is painted on me when people see me driving in my car. So the minute people see that badge i automatically become a stupid teenager driving either moms car, or the car that mom bought for me.

Yep, i admit, if another bmw is trying to get into my lane, i will not hesitate(sp) to let them in.

Not in a 14yr old BMW... come on now, you're acting like everyone is jealous of your new E90. Also you're defaming your own character by posting this, especially since you mentioned at first that the "other kids" envied you for the BMW and now "the other kids" are richer than you which would mean that your BMW is not good enough for them??? Come on... give this one a rest, what do you want everyone to post an appology?

That's the way it is in any residential area as it should be. You better believe you wouldn't get much love in any of them. House pricing has nothing to do with it.....

I will not and do not put up with people racing up and down my street. People need to understand where they are and drive accordingly. I have had many “discussions” with people who needed reminded of where they are. And yes, most of those who needed reminded are usually under the age of 20….

Here in Aus the residential limit is 50km/h (approx. 30mph). It peeves me when I see dumbo's driving at 70km/h, I love it when they come up behind me (me doing the speed limit of course) I just keep on driving - a$$wipes. Anway, I didn't get the same meaning from Carson's statement as you did Steve, just that the BMW badge is still cause enough for reactions, regardless of the age of his ride. But at any rate - who gives a flying (ahem) about what people think?? Do you love the car?? That's all you need to know =D

What's with the antagonism on this thread...........if somebody feels something or experiences something in a certain way......let it be......there is nothing worse than telling somebody they are wrong in how they feel......... [confused] every neighborhood, city, town, state and country experiences things differently.......thank God we are not all experiencing the same thing or we wouldnt have anything to talk about..........jeez......is it me......or did this thread get on your nerves......
