You're hurting your fuel pump by doing this, running your car for prolonged periods with little to no gas in the car causes your fuel pump to work overtime. Always best to keep it above half tank whenever possible.

Only thing I'm scared of at the gas stations is... The gas prices!

I have not done the research myself, but have read that today's price is equal to the price of gas in the seventies considering inflation, etc. I would prefer the price from the 40's (although I admit I do not know what it was!) No old man jokes! Haha

Last night, for the first time in my life I filled gas that costed me over $30. I swore to myself that when it costed over $30 to fill up a tank, I would start driving more sensibly. I cannot believe it is costing me $31.86 to fill up a tank of gas; and my the light had just went on!! What are guys paying for a fill up?

I heard that the fuel pump is also cooled by the gas and it is bad for it when you run the car with less than a quarter tank of gas. That doesn't make much sense either, I always wondered, isn't the pump lubricated/cooled by the fuel it pumps and not by the fuel it sits in? Oh well.

A couple of days ago my mom needed a ride (she still doesn't drive), since I was free I decided to drive her, hey going for a ride is going for a ride, still enjoy driving. On the way where she needed to go I told her I need gas and we'd have to stop at a gas station. When we get there she offers to pay for gas since I am driving her, I told her not to but she insisted. hehe, you should have seen her face when the pump said something like 33 dollars.

Lately we've been getting raped at the gas stations but it still hasn't stopped me from putting 93 only and opening her up once in a while. We live only once, you gotta have fun somehow

I am guessing 530s have bigger gas tanks than 325s. As far as I know my whole system won't be able to hold 17 gallons of gas and thats what 38.43 dollars at 2.19 comes out to. I like that and don't at the same time. hehe

Yeah, 16 gallons for 3-series and 18 gallons for 5-series

constantly going back to fill up $10 at a time is a waste of time for me. i used to do that a little back during last price hike, while in college, but now i just figure it evens out. (pay more some times, pay a lil less at other times..) w/ price per barrel north of $50, it really isn't like the price will all of a sudden drop below $2 over night..

at the cheapest shell station by me, premium is 2.189. other stations are close to 2.30. average fill up for the past month has been around $35. i try not to pay too much attention, or i'll really get mad at bush.. misdirected or not.

yeah gas is pumped at the same rate if you are flooring it or at idle. If it is not used it is returned to the tank. (So there is almost always fuel being pumped back into the fuel tank) This process cools the gasoline by running though all those gas lines like a radiator. And when it passes through the pump, it cools it. The gas passing through lubricates the pump and cools it. As long as you have enough gas to pass through the pump, there will be no difference in pump life.

Just got her. 2005 325XI. Sweet. For a compact car she drinks alot. How do you guys feel about using 91 octane? I know it's the minimum recommended, but wonder what experience anyone might have.

I use 93 only, unless I have money and see 94. I don't care that people say it is useless and all that crap, I want to and thats what I use. The reason for me not using 91 octane is because as some of you know, many gas station mix in some 87 in 89, 89 in 91, 91 in 93 and 93 in 94 so there is always a chance I would be pouring 89 instead of 91 or 87 instead of 89 so I just go with 93 all the time.
