Same. I live 43 miles from work. I carpool now with a friend, though. I can only carpool with one person, though, since I only have one extra seat. [hihi]
I wish I hadn't gotten rid of my motorcycle. My wife and I have reduced our family visiting trips tremendously, though. ....that also has to do with the fact that she has a job now too (to pay for our gas).

In France gas is very expensive, more than 1 € a liter (5,5 $ a gallon) [8]

But I still drive for pleasure.

im driving about hte same time but it is getting a pain getting less gas, it is a lot since my dad works about a extremely far distance from my house (60+ miles 1 way) and i go to school 30+ miles one way, its not that we live far from everywhere just that my dad owns the company and likes living by the ocean so far commute to LA and we live in the southern most point of Orance County, and I go to school at a school extremely far away becuz it is the best in the county...lots of driving lots of gas money

I drive around the same, but I no longer cant afford Premium 93 octane gas, as its like 2.10 or even 2.17 in certain gas stations. So now im using plus 89 octane. It dosent matter much since i have a land rover Discovery. But when i started buying the lower octane gas the engine does sound slightly weaker... Why are they cutting down on how much barrels of oil are being produced anyway?

Still drive as much-wouldn't cancel a trip or vacation for a few extra dollars in gas. (and I still have to work!)
NPR commentary this past weekend was amusing, something like: gas price conscious soccer moms might consider downsizing their Hummers for something more economical like a Lincoln Navigator.
93 octane in my area is 1.99-2.09/ gal. Only use Mobile or Shell.

Supply and demand. I dont know actual figures but lets say they produce 50 million barrels a day. Gas prices go up and they only sell 40 million barrels or pertrol a day. They cut production to save money, then demand goes back up (ie over the sumemer) to say 60 million barrels a day. They raise prices so demand goes back down. It happens every year, but we're talking gas prices that are LITERALLY 3 times as much as we were paying 6 years ago.

I'm in sales-I need my car, won't use less than 93 octane, look for cheapest price on a quality brand and get it then, I never haul around more gas/weight than I need-usually 1/2-3/4 tank as average-hoping to save something in weight.
I'm just glad I don't have something that burns a lot of gas!
I will still work, go exploring, visit Grand Kids.
I'll just bitch a little more often, keep highway speeds closer to 70 on long drives-yeah... right! (I will try though!)

Close but not quite. Gas prices in the San Francisco Bay area were $1.44 in June of 1998 (source bizjournals.com) That would mean that today they would have to be $4.32 per gallon to be three times higher.

I know over here at the cheaper gas stations, regular unleaded was $0.89 a gallon about 6 or 7 years ago. Now it's 1.69 (not 3 times but still a lot of money)
