Sketchy... real sketchy...[screwy]

170hp in that heavy car with a 0-60 of 7.8 seconds manual track time and top speed of 130mph [confused]

I didn't even hear the M3's inline 6 roar at 8k...

Damn, think it's real [scratch]

Am I missing something on the Audi A4 1.8t? I thought the HP was a LOT less?

Edit Again...Hey Tom...you have both...is the Audi as fast as the M3?
I forgot to mentioned that's not an average A4 [hihi] . It has a turbo upgrade along with injectors and software. Its pretty neat to see the potential of those little 1.8 Liter.

True about the venerable 1.8T engine. It can be transformed into a beast. If I had the money when I had my Jetta, I could have turned that sucker into a 280hp/296 ft-lbs screaming rocket. I was very impressed on the potential of such small engine; stock was 150hp.
Sad to see the legendary ///M3 getting spanked by smaller displacement.

it's not TOO surprising... the old 90's eclipse/talon turbo's could lay down 600 hp without any HUGE mods... like forged pistons.

This is a very interesting thread; I had no idea the Audi/VW engines were so good. Wouldn’t a 4 cylinder need to be exceptionally strong to endure the abuse of this type in order to generate such tremendous horsepower? It would seem like the engines would need to be capable of tremendous RPM compared to others???

I can only imagine what you could do with the 3.0....I was looking at those too.....to small for my liking though.
Believe it or not, but the 1.8t has a lot more potential due to the large aftermarket parts over the 3.0.

I almost bought an A4 1.8T instead of my M3. Upgrades for it were ridiculously priced, and after a lot of reasearch, I found out you would have to spend a LOT of cash to really increase the power where it would be comprable to a new M3. But you know whats real nice? That awesome 5 speed manual that REDLINES at 130. I would love to have a car with 400HP at the wheels that couldn't go over 130mph. That would rock! The high 3-4k RPM range while cruising on the highway rules too. Would love that wear and tear on the engine..

Blah to the Audi..

Thats awesome! And it kept even until the turbo kicked in. The M3 is still the nicer car, that A4 would be awesome for some racing competition events though.

I would rather be driving a BMW than a VW. IMO.

NS, and that thing woudl get pwnt on a track vs. the m3. he'd have to put in another 2 grand to catch up suspension-wise, and more for brakes.

straight line doesn't mean much

The Audi A4 1.8T received a 6-speed manual transmission for 2004, so no more 130mph-limiting 5-speed. The 1.8T is rather slow in stock form (but fun to drive with a manual tranny), but it can be modded heavily. But when you mod it, there is no doubt you sacrifice engine life (I used to want an A4 1.8T, I've read a TON of things on modding the 1.8T engine).
Better off going with an M3 than modding an A4 1.8T if you have the $$ for the initial investment.
