i read the article and agreed with the author. Japanese (and American automakers) tend to define performance in terms of raw horsepower. BMW has moved its brands well beyond that definition.

It's more than horsepower.... ALOT more!

My 2 cents ...

^ Tom don't kid yourself. Infiniti's lose their value like America's Social Security system.
Yes I agree that Infiniti looses its resale value much more than BMW, but that was not part of the comparo. Dollar for Dollar you get way more out of the infiniti than you do the 328i. And again I'm commenting from the two cars stated in the article and not any other 3-Series.

Furthremore, I'm basing my comments after having the opportunity of driving both the new G35 and new 3-Series.

That is correct...if we care about value and dollars that much, we wouldn't be driving bimmers!
It's more about the overall quality of performance and handling, and looks of course.

great article and thanks for sharing... but, seriously. was there ever any doubt for us? the 3 is bmw's flagship car afterall... :)

the only way a japanese luxury car would be rated better- imo- would be if a senior citizen wrote the review- since they like all-around "light" handling for easier driving- ie light steering wheel and zero road to car to driver feedback.

Mike, good ole American muscle or some chump that can't shift? or both?.. or plain heavy ass [:D]

G35 def has the value proposition down. at one point i was going to spring for a g35.. how many moons ago was that? was it a good decision? i'm happy with my car, even if my pocket's a bit thinner, but i think my smile's wider [:D] my car is def aging better than the g35 imo.

Kenny, actually if money wasn't the issue, i think there are other cars to be had besides the 3. [doorpeek]

actually i want nissan and g35 to be doing better, competition is always good for the consumer imo. as it stands, i don't think you can knock anyone for getting the G35. not my cup o tea, but is still a compelling choice none the less.

Infiniti tries so damn hard to compete directly with the BMW 3-Series, and they do a pretty good job. I would say the G35 is definitely the value leader between the two in this comparison, but the BMW is always worth its price.
