if your going the 3-series route at least get the 330i, those 325i's are seriously slow (170 horsepower) it just happens that my g/f's brother has one so i can attest for that. good luck anyway.

170??? wha? Try 184hp and remember a car isn't measured in hp.... Slow? well the 318i can attest to that itself. But anyhow the car doesn't feel slow at all, and it isn't. Tell him to drop it into step mode M1 and floor it sometime, I don't think he'll call it slow then. [bmwkick]

my bad the engine use to be rated at 170...i guess i have higher expectations cause i personally find these cars dogs, the 330i on the other hand is decently quick....but hell i have a 2600 lb. E30 with a `95 m3 motor in it and still want more power, by the way the "S50" in my signature stands for the name of the `95 M3 motor...so i don't have that 1.8 4 cylinder anymore [;)]

The ONLY reason to go with the X3 is the traction, if you need the traction then go test drive the 325xi and the the X3. I tested the X3 and found to ride to much like a truck (even stiffer than an SUV) so that took it immediatly off of my wish list. I would have bought the X5 but just liked the way the 530 held the road better. Chicks dig the conventional BMW.

(I just asked a couple of my female counterparts what they thought.....conventional style...no X3)
WOW can you believe I posted that......what about a year ago or so.......this is an OLD thread. Who would have thought I would trade my 530i for an X3

Oh and by the way I saw a 530xi yesterday, so BMW is making and x drive 5series now.

Haha, yeah, I was reading the post from the beginning now and when I was reading your response I couldn't really put the two together, the car you drive and what you said. Time really changes us, doesn't it?

enthusiast, I would have gone for the 325i as well. You live in Cali, so there is no point at all to getting the X3. You have to go manual though...the 325i in automatic just feels so winded when you get on it.

Although I'm starting to think maybe slower cars are better....I don't often get to redline my car. Usually when I get on it, I end up upshifting at only 5K rpm (6,600rpm redline)....if I go all the way, I just get to license-losing speeds too easily. [:(]
