Scott your 100% right on! Bellevue is a city of it's own where median home value topped $1 million in the 2000 Census.

And although I do not own an SMG I have many friends who do. Several of them are BMW CCA Driving School instructors far from being "noobs" who "can't drive a stick".
I told you in a past post, which I am not sure if you read it, but when we meet up I will let you drive my SMG equipped M. It usually takes about 1 month or more (usually more) to get a true feel of the ins/outs and the workings of the stated gearbox.

At times I do wish the M was a 3-pedal equipped tranny (I have test driven a new one and a friends and loved it), but if I had to do it all over again I would buy a SMG again. I wish I could have one of each.

Emile, I know from past posts that you do like SMG to a degree (or I thought you did), but by all means don't take post above as an attack on you. I respect and value your always insightful thoughts, posts, and knowledge.....

If the 50k insurance money was the downpayment how much would the scrap parts have brought in another 30k? So roughly 80k for a bently downpayment.... no comment. Why would he want a bentley anyway? The M3 is the ultimate car for speed and looks, especially to a 17yr old. That kid needs to get the beating of a lifetime...

Wow, what a dumb kid. It was probably an M3 w/SMG and the kid had no idea what car he had. I think the Bentley part was just bullshit. They quoted a cop, not the kid himself, and $47K doesn't buy you a Bentley....the Bentley part was just for media hype or something.

A friend of mine described the M3 w/SMG well today, he called it a "double-edged sword." On one hand, it's faster and offers the best performance, on the other hand, it's what all the noobs who can't drive stick get just so they can have the M3. M cars should just be stick shift only.
Yeah, definitly agree, what Moron would wanna trade a master piece such as the M3 for a bentley. Maybe for a E60 M5... but thats a different story.. [chair]

I don't know where his quote ends and yours begins and this is not meant as a flame but.....I think he(you) missed the boat here. Actually I can't believe you would think that, in fact I think I have read some other posts by you about the benefits of SMG.

It has nothing to do with the ability to drive a stick shift. The SMG simply shifts faster than is humanly possible or automatic tranny possible. That's it. Nothing to do with noobs. Maybe a noob would get it for that reason, but it would be for the wrong reason because that is not what BMW intended.
SMG is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it is faster and overall better performance and will never make a mistake unlike a human, but on the other hand most people who just want an M3 (for the bragging rights, shit like that) will get the SMG and have NO idea how to drive stick or anything regarding performance.
The M3's reputation comes from being an amazing sports car, not by being a "look at me in my BMW M3" car....that is what it has become. I guarantee you that if SMG was not available for the M3, it would cut sales in half (maybe more). And that would separate the men from the boys.

I don't consider M Speed to be part of the "SMG noob group" but most people I see on the road with SMG, are part of that group, unfortunately. Oh well, their money, their car.

Alright Checsty, what is a "flog"? hehe.
Haha funny you should ask Big D. Flog is another word for wank, so it figures that instead of calling the kid a wanker or a tosser, he may receive the distinguished honour of being referred to as a flog! [hihi]

The kid's a idiot! haha

Now I do think his parents should get him another car though, it's tough being a teenager and not have a ride. They should get the frick'n spoiled idiot a 72' pinto or better yet a gremlin or a puke green pacer. [chair] [nutkick] [boxface] [target] [?|]. WHY, WHY, WHY! Anyways that my thoughts.

Just to add my two cents, that was some LOUSY reporting by that reporter... She couldn't even get a decent sounding punchline correct, must be little or no job competition in WA.

But those kids sure did a number on that M3....good video for the content.
