That hood scoop is actually functional you know, its not just a ricer mod :p. Due to the boxer engine the radiator sits on top of the engine and the air is fed to it through the hoodscoop.

Couldnt care much about the rear wing, you can always get it removed!

i didn´t read through all replys, but here is mine. go with the WRX. i drove one once, and it blew my mind. it has so fine technics under that hood....i really rocked and i would prefer it over almost all bmw´s except 330 or M3. a 325 i.e. wouldn´t be enough against a WRX. performance was breathtaking. i drove several cars, many with lots of power, but the AWD and the boxer just took off best.

I don't know if you should take uniqueness into account. Every car gets played out fast nowadays. People are more willing to sacrifice practicality in order to "look cool" now. Take the 3-series for example...I see about 5-10 3-Series in my area in a single day (assuming I do around 30 miles of driving) yet they are still great cars and I wouldn't hesitate to get one just because a lot of people have one.
The WRX is not so common anyways...I mean, I see my share of them, but not that many that I am tired of seeing them. Plus the WRX is just so beautiful to drive and has many modifications available.
But I still really really really think you should look for an E36 M3. You'll get the WRX's performance and the BMW's luxury all in one pimp daddy package that is guaranteed to run for a long time, and you'll be able to say "I drive an M3." [:D]

Personally, I don't like the WRX because it screams "I'm the factory built Ultimate Ricing Machine". BUT if I were 17 I would probably go for the WRX, as several people have said.
Bahhahaha [rofl] [rofl] Ultimate ricing machine [rofl]

I don't think it would be a bad car if they changed the looks a bit. A real problem I have with the WRX is the association I have developed between the car and those that drive them around here. They run strong with the rice here.

Take it from someone a little older & wiser...

I am a firm believer in the saying... "You are what you drive."

You will make more of a statement in appearing [where ever] in a BMW than in any 'ricer.'

Car Max and E-Bay are great sites to locate a low milage/pre-owned BMW's...

i think calling the WRX a ricer is plain old ignorance. Sure they are japanese, and some are riced (just like bimmers), but the fact of the matter remains it is a quick AWD car, with much racing pedigree.

like i said, id love to have an m3, but . . . i can only afford a 95 or so, makin it 9 YEARS OLD NOW.

i think that an m3 shold be something i can think about when i dont feel like studyin, it should be something i should work for you know. . . but at 17 i dont think its for me. but i have thought about it.

I don't know. I've had my bmw for 2 years, since I turned 16. It almost seems that people's perception of teens with bmw's is that the kid is a little pretty boy who doesn't have to do anything. I know for the most part it's not true. But when people ask me what I drive and I say BMW, suddenly their whole perception of me is skewed by the name BMW. I almost appear as a "$" to them. Sure people will respect the bmw, and with damn good reason, but they might not respect the person.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off topic.

ok guys i thnk ive pretty much decided.
but i had a lot to think about.

wrx
1. faster/more preformance oriented
2. less mature, like me
3. im jsut a kid, a bmw should be something i can look forward to earning when i grow up.
4. its the top model (ie RS vs WRX), while the bmw would have to be the bottom model for me to afford (ie 323 vs 328)witht he exclusion of sti and m3.

bmw
1. reliable/last long
2. absolutley solid german car feeling.
3. image/praise
4. expensive maint, esp since purcahsing older.
5. luxurios

well my desision is the WRX. it could be months it coud be years im just deciding now bc its jsut that, when the next expensive maint in my 12 year old car breaks, i know ill lbe headed to irvine subaru, not irvine bmw.

a test drive will confirm but not time for that yet. for now i continue driving my AWESOME 325i, and i love it, its just my dad dont wanna spend money into it, he thinks i should have neweer car.

thx for the help

At my age I think quality/resale. Your Dad has that covered as you will get a new car when either wears out.
Forget quality and brand recognition, and get the rice burner you know you want.

Hey, did you ever think about Acura? It looks nice i think and starts at 26,000.00, close to the WRX.
yes i have heard teh new acura, its fwd but suppsoed to be so nicley balanced, that u cant tell, it handles like a rwd.

buuuut, im payin for leather and such, whereas wrx is raw performance oriented.

teh problem my absolute max is about 17-18k and acura has good resale and as a 2nd hand buyer thats bad. i would ratehr have a bad resale bc i and my parents run our cars to the gorund 10, 12, 15 years how much, so resale is relativley useless.

rsx may work for you, if you can get over the looks at that price range.
but i like the rex, esp if you are young and want to have a econo rocket, it's hard to pass up.

this maybe out of scope, but i really like the new mazda 3s.. but in the end, drive em, take what you like the best.

Dude... I get that too. Well gathered that a 20 year old like me would have enough money to get whatever car he/she wanted, but I get that same change-of-perception from people when they ask me what I drive. Now I say "Oh I drive an old BMW" it stirs away some from that slight negativity, but most still go "STILL MAN!... It's a Bimmer..."

Haha...

Although nothing compliments you better than a BMW when you're dressed up for work.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't trade that off for anything. Even a fast Subaru.

Have you thought about an e30 M3?

You should be able to find one cheap enough that you can get the engine rebuilt with a nice port and polish and get the thing in like-new running condition. Plus the e30 is old enough now that it is very easy to get replacement parts for it, more so than the e36.

If I had 17K I'd keep my '92 325i (which i also have) and save up a little extra for an 8 series. But if that was out of the question I'd go for an e30 M3 and have it restored to like-new condition.

well i asked my dad if i could restore my 325 into new condition, but thats when he told me that i sholdnt have an old car. esp since im gonna go college next year and he dun want me to be troubled by an old car. he said not to spend money into it bc we already spent like 5k this year and after the next big problem that we will get rid of it.
