Bavarian soccer moms (or is that football moms?) will soon have another choice for carting little Johannes to sport practice. BMW is developing a vehicle that’s more comfortable for rear passengers than the just-launched X6. This all-new vehicle was spotted prowling the streets of Munich and bears some resemblance to the X6.
Though the purpose of the V-series sounds a lot like a minivan, the performance should be much better. The V-series rides on the upcoming 5-series platform and should offer similar engine choices. Most V-series models will be powered by 3.0-liter I-6 engines, including gasoline and diesel variants. Horsepower should range from 231 in the turbodiesel up to a healthy 420 horsepower if the 550i’s V-8 becomes an option.
BMW is developing another all new model which got caught on photos these days during first tests in the streets of Munich.
The pictured prototype is still under heavy disguise but reveals already a sloping hatchback, similar to the just launched X6 but with more headroom for the rear passengers. Currently dubbed “V-Series”, BMW’s intention with this car is to create not a van but a sportier, more elegant and more luxurious car offering lots of space and comfort without the aura of a middle class family van.
The newcomer is based on the future new BMW 5-series platform, thus saving production- and development costs. Scheduled for launch by the end of next year, the car is expected to get power from 3,0 litre six cylinder engines delivering 272 HP (fuel), 286 HP (Twinturbo-Diesel) and 231 HP (Turbodiesel). The top of the line version 550i might get the future direct-injection V 8 delivering 420 HP. For later also a four wheel drive variant could come on the market.
