Yet, another car swap. Necessity, not pleasure or boredom

Hey everyone,

My problems were escalating everyday with the Range Rover, and I just couldn't take it anymore. The Navi/Infotainment was beginning to talk and change things on it's own while I was driving, the A/C kept going out, the car wouldn't start multiple times (was stuck downtown with the baby 2x), along with the multitude of warning lights and errors. Less than 650 miles on the Rover, and in the Service Dept. 5 times. Good riddance!

I got a new 2006 Audi A6 3.2, Light Silver Metallic with Premium Ebony Leather with:

Multitronic CVT Transmission
Voice recognition Pkg
Keyless Start
Park Distance Control
DVD Navigation
XM Radio
Bi-Xenon Adaptive Lights
Bose Sound
Heated Seats

The MPG in the city is 3x higher than the Range Rover, and 2x higher on the highway. The build quality and attention on the A6 is pretty remarkable! I also got 4 years free maintenance, including brakes, rotors, oil and all wear items.

I really wanted to keep the RRS, but I just couldn't trust it...and with my new son, it was more headache than pleasure & safety. Also, feels great with the lower monthly payment, lower gas and lower auto insurance.

Very nice! I drove an A6 rental a few weeks back, I really liked the interior finish and comfort. Just one annoying thing - why are there no cruise control buttons on the steering wheel?!?

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Give us some reports in a month or two.

What rental company has A6s?!?!?

Very nice Adam! I love the new A6, especially the interior. A very nice choice!

Thanks for all the great responses, and positive comments. I was really deflated about having to dump the Rover after only 2 months, but I have never had more problems with a car...and with only 600 miles!!

Didn't get the Quattro, because I live in Los Angeles, and we barely dip below 45F, and we don't have any snow or ice. Also, the non-quattro gets better mileage, and with CA gas prices, that was more important to me.

Yeah, the interior is amazing. I Love BMW, but the Audi interior is almost better in every way.

Thanks guys [driving]

Congratulations on your new purchase... It looks very nice for a non-BMW [;)] I wish you many trouble-free miles in her.

<end quote>

But the Quattro must get better mpg than the RR you had, was CA gas prices NOT an issue two months ago when you bought the Range Rover. Believe me when you have to pay 95p per Litre (or US$6.80 per US Gallon) like here in the UK you drive a Diesel [???1]

I am a little confused though....

Why exactly do you use BMW Süchtige in your profile................. surely it is an Oxymoron [wiggle]

JPHuston,

Yes, mpg is important to me. As long as I had to get rid of the Range Rover, I figured I would get the most mpg I could. If I lived in a different climate, I would have for sure gotten the Quattro. It really wasn't a matter of money, I figured I just really didn't need the all wheel drive. I have had 2 Diesels, and think they are wonderful. Once CA gets the low sulfur diesel...I will be the first to get a CDI E or C Class. I think Diesel is the best bridge between doing something with our oil dependency problem. Some of the new MBZs and BMWs & VWs can go 500-700 miles on one tank...with super clean emissions and almost no particulates!

I have had 7 BMWs since 2004, so I think I was, and still am a huge BMW fan. Maybe not as much "BMW süchtige" as a while back, but I still have huge admiration for the cars, the company and the heritage!! No oxymoron!!

Don't mind me, I was just pulling your leg a little. Life is too short to get hung up of the little things...

...as I said I wish you many trouble-free miles in her [thumb]

Dude you think too much about the negatives of every car you lease or purchase. Stop being so spoiled and just get one car and stick to it for 3 years.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience with the Range, it sounds like it definitely needed to go, though. Congrats on the new car.

Hey Emile,

Not being spoiled at all. I just believe when you lay down a lot of money, you should get quality. I was so happy when I got the Rover, and planned on keeping it at least 2 years. I was really upset, and felt cheated when I had it in for service in the first month. Hoping the Audi is a good one. Love the interior, it really is amazing.

Err, if it was brand new, I'd be pretty damned pissed if it was in the shop that often.

Why would you stick with a lemon. That's asinine. Only a fool who deserves to be parted with their money does that. And this was for a very expensive car. Why are you paying that much more over a Ford Exploder? Part of it is supposed to be for improved quality.

Deutsch did the right thing. Cut his losses.

Thanks Richard. I too, find nothing spoiled about spending $75,000, only to have the damned thing in the shop 5x in a month. I drove a rental more than the Range Rover. With the lower payments each month for the Audi, 3x more mpg, 4 years of free maintenance including brakes, rotors and oil changes and $700 annual reduction in auto insurance....I am ahead in every way.

Once again Adam, nice choice and congrats! Love the car, color and make....

Here's to trouble-free motoring.... [cheers]
Thanks Scott. Never having an Audi, I am pretty darned impressed with the build quality, attention to little details (like soft LED lighting all around the cabin like the new S Class), solidity and the interior materials are honestly the highest I have ever had. They are better than any BMW or MBZ we have ever had or driven. I'm a happy little camper. And I love saving $ each month [:)] Thanks for the nice words, as always!!
