I have a 2002 330ci convertible. 3.0 Liter Engine. After starting the engine , approximately 20 seconds later the Yellow oil lamp comes on for about 15 seconds and then goes out. It does not come on while driving. Is this normal? Does it come on just to note it is working order? Please advise> Thanks

It's normal but a warning - it is telling you that you are a quart low on oil. If your level is normal the light goes out almost immediately after startup.

There is also a possibility it is defective, I believe there was a TSB from BMW regarding faulty low oil level. You can check that with the dealer.

I drive a 2000 323i and it did this after I ran over a speed bump a bit too fast. For mine, it isn't the lack of oil. My dip stick says it's the proper amount. I've been told that it's the oil level sender that's faulty but I haven't gotten confirmation.

Just be careful you don't add too much oil to your car if it's the sender that's at fault and not a lack of oil.
