BMW have been gearing up for the defence of their World Touring Car Championship crown, by putting the new E90 version of the 320i saloon through its paces at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy.
Both Team Deutschland and Team Italy-Spain were on track in the latest generation vehicle, with Dirk Muller, Jorg Muller, Alex Zanardi, Marcel Costa and Ander Vilarino all posting times.
Although BMW go into the new season as the team to beat once again, Jorg Muller knows that the car still needs development. "It looks like the new car has a lot of potential. It is more precise compared to last year's model," he said, "It is quite an interesting challenge for us, because we are developing the WTCC version from scratch, whereas the S2000 E46 car was developed starting from the Super Production version."
The Team Italy-Spain squad, run by Ravaglia Motorsports, used the test to both gather data about the car and to help them decide which driver will partner Zanardi this season.
