Winter Tire Question

I'm looking at buying an 04 330xi with Sports Pkg - comes with 225/45/17 performance tires up front (7.5x17 rims) and 245/40/17s in the back (8.5x17 rims). Any serious disadvantages to running winter tires of different widths on these rims?

I'd rather avoid buying a new set of 17" rims.

Thanks,

There will be no clearance for serious snow tires with 17" wheels. I could be wrong, but I think you'll be looking for something like cheap 15" steel wheels with hubcaps and room to add tires with substantive treads for the hardcore winter months.

Welcome to the board.

dick grayson, the 2004 330xi (AWD) with Sport Package gives you 205/50-17" all-season tires all around. The tire specifications you stated (225/45-17 front, 245/40-17 rear, performance summer tires) are for the 330i with Sport Package.

If you are getting the 2004 330xi with Sport Package, the all-season tires (which the car comes with) along with the AWD will do a fine job in the dry as well as in snow.

by another set of 17's dude, ebay for like 500 will get you soemthing you can have no fear about in the winter. dont' want you scuffing up your nice new wheels with salt and stuff. also its a pain to ahve the tires pulled every season, and those tire jockeys don't go easy on wheels either
