Okay my car just gets too damn hot during the day.... I don't know a single thing about getting my windows tinted - I know I want to do it professionally, and I think I've heard 3M makes a good ceramic tint?

My question is, in general, what kind of options will I have and what kind of prices should I expect to have it done professionally?

Think $400 for 5 windows. That's for Huper Optik or V-Kool. The 3M stuff might be cheaper. Not sure since it's not the "name" ceramic tint. It'd likely be considered the generic brand. Kinda like the store brand versus name brand. Possibly just as good, but I'm not sure.

I agree Huper Optik is the way to go. However Llumar or any other brand would be fine if you get their higher end line.

Just call a reputable company that will back up their work, in case it bubbles or something. I got mine done for $220, took about two hours and then you just leave the windows closed for about one to two days. Mine was done really well. I've got the darkest legal tints, but if you go one step further it looks better, especially on a black car which is what my Bro did on his truck. Just get quotes from different companies and make sure you don't get that tint that looks silver from the outside... unless that's what you want of course.

Good advice everyone - tazz, I definitely would go with the regular black tint, I'll do everything but the windshield. It's not just to clean up the look of the car a bit, but I'm much more worried about how hot the leather gets in the sun. I figure this is preventative maintainence.

I am getting my windows tinted in about a month since the place Im taking it will remove my dorrpanels and do it the "correct way" the film they use is a ceramic film used by FormulaOne. Ceramci Film is used on newer cars with the antenna built into the rear window since Metallized film messes it up. I saw how it looks like and looks really impressive. It will cost me 450 to do it but its best to get it done right so it doesnt turn purple or bubble up. Its worth spendign hte moeny to get a good tint.

http://www.formulaone.com/

heres a link of hte Formula One Film. I cant wait to get the tint now.

Well the good part is that there is a noticeable difference in terms of the heating of the leather in summer (black on black too so I feel your pain) with the tints, but it's not a miracle that's for sure. It does help but just not to the extent where it still doesn't burn the skin off your legs =D... It does wonders for minimising sun glare though, truly excellent in the afternoon especially, cuts the heat of the sun by a lot. $450 sounds like you're being ripped though. I'd look into that a little more closely.

Yea I'll have to figure out where to take it to around my area. I'd be willing to spend extra $$ to make sure it was done as professionally as possible.

Tazz, have you experienced ceramic tint? Stuff is like a miracle IMO. I had regular limo tint (5%) on my old car. 30% ceramic tint absolutely BLOWS the old tint away in terms of heat rejection. It's definitely worth the big increase in price if you're concerned about heat. I'm in the land of 90-110 degrees Faranheit heat. With regular tint, you leave your car out for a couple hours or more, that leather's gonna burn. Literally. I think you can get minor degree burns from sitting on that stuff right away. With the ceramic tint, I can hop in to the car in shorts and while the seats will be a bit warm, it only rises to the slightly annoying level before it goes away in a few seconds. Car also cools down much more quickly when you open the windows or turn on the a/c.

I'll definitely get ceramic tint then.

I got 18% 3M tint done for $140 for all 5 windows. This was in Houston.

It's darker than what you see in my sig, which was when I had 30% tint.

Never even heard of ceramic tint, but Im happy with mine anyway. Well realistically I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money and I definitely wouldn't get it re-done now. During summer here we get the usual 30-35degree days with the occasional 40degree day thrown in, the leather gets hot and it burns, before I had the tints and now. My major concern with the tints was that it would ruin reception, which it didn't; that it would bubble, which it didn't; and that it would offer UV protection which it does, so I'm pretty much happy with mine and it didn't cost an arm and a leg (arm and a leg to me is probably quite low atm =P) I guess it would be nice to have 'warm' leather as opposed to 'hot', but I doubt it would be worth several hundred dollars extra to me.
