I was behind one today. Not a fancy one, and the rear tires had a negative camber that was like my lowered 325is. But the front looked normal. Do X5 come with wierd camber setup because they are top heavy?

All X5's are like that, and pretty much all BMW's are like that, if you look closely. You can just spot the X5's aggressive negative camber because it is a raised vehicle (and most SUV"s don't really have such negative camber since they have much stronger off-road intentions than the X5). The Z4's negative camber is pretty easy to spot as well.

I'm not saying the X5 has more negative camber than the other BMW's because of its height (that may be the case, but I don't think so and I don't know for sure). I'm just stating that it is easier to spot the X5's negative camber than the other BMW vehicles because more of the rear end is exposed on the X5 (since it is higher up and all).

This is why I don't like non-sport X5 3.0's actually. You can spot the negative camber pretty easily and with the X5 3.0's standard tires being a bit thin, it just looks silly as opposed to the X5 4.8is.

Yeah, totally...my aunt has one and sometimes looking at the back makes me think maybe something is bent...but that's how they squat.

All bmw's have an insane negative camber. It's for stability and I think Kirby (??) explained it... but you need a good bit of negative camber becuase the entire surface (from the inside to the outside sidewalls) never touches the road - only a little bit. So when you go into a curve and the car leans, less/more touches the road. So by having negative camber, one of the wheels maintains as much contact as possible, versus only having maybe 20% contact.

Yea I know. I setup my camber myself on my 325is. I just didn't know it was that negative on the X5 from the factory.
Heh yea the X5, X3, 5 series, and 7 series seem to have a pretty insane negative camber in the rear.
