Why won't GM give us the new 'Baby Caddy?'

Why wouldn't this car sell in the US? With BMW set to introduce the 1-series sedan in the US next year, why won't Caddy release this car state-side? I don't understand.

Doesn't look to bad. But whenever I think of "Baby Caddy", I think of the old catara built on the J-Body (cavalier with a cadilac badge) - No Thanks!!!!

At least this doesn't look like they made that same misstake.
