Why not BMW first?

Why is it that I read about all these new technologies that BMW is coming up with, but then always see it first in other cars? The link below is for the new tech-heavy Mercedes S550.

I read about the night-vision thing months ago in a car magazine talking about the innovations at BMW; same with Heads-Up Display years ago, and Adaptive Head Lights. And these aren't the only things. The turn-button thing looks like I-Drive too, but they claim "Mercedes gets it right".

I just don't understand why other cars get praises for things that I have read time and time again are BMW innovations. Is it just that they're taking the ideas from BMW and then fine-tuning them? Or am I just a BMW lover that reads stuff that BMW is coming up with and believe every word of it whether it's true or not? It's just that when I read about these new innovations, I expect to see them in BMW first!!!

Becuase bmw's idrive isn't easy for the old fart reviewers, but they are old farts and own mercedes and mercedes "idrive" is probably much easier to use out of the box.

BMW really doesn't come up with a ton of new technology, they just refine the hell out of it.

Checkout the history of Mercedes, they are a company that does everything first. BMW usually takes ideas from Benz, but recently its been the other way around and Benz gets the chance to do everything better and BMW does a poor job the first time around.

As epj3 said, BMW is good at refining technology not creating it.

Germans can't do electronics. Neither I-Drive nor Mercedes' Comand system get very good reviews. I've played with them a little. Takes a little practice, but they're not too bad. Easily inferior to what the Japs have though. They can make idiot proof electronics... and with consumers nowadays, especially in America, that's what you need to do.

All that stuff doesn't matter though. BMW's the Ultimate Driving Machine. Other companies attempt to copy the driving feel of a BMW, but they still can't copy it entirely.
