Where is the best place to run aftermarket stereo wires?

Hello,

I'm getting ready to install a new DVD player head unit and amplifier. The DVD player is going in the glove box and the amp in the trunk at the stock amp location. I've had problems with noise before so I would like to avoid splitting and soldering wires to use the stock connections.

Both the DVD Player and Amp have RCA inputs for the two channels so what I would like to do is run a very high quality 2 channel RCA cable from the glove box to the trunk. Where should I run the wire in order to avoid the least amount of noise and physical stress? Would thru the back seat and under the transmission tunnel be ok?

PS..

Since the car has 10 speakers and the AMP only has two channels you just twist all the right speakers + and - into one terminal and all the left speakers + and - into the other terminal, right?

THANKS!!

Well, I don't know about the E30 but in the E36, the power cable is run underneath the seat on the right side so I would think that to get the least noise, the wires would need to be run the opposite of that which is the roof on the right side, the headliner does a great job of hiding them. In your case, I would just reccomend going with the opposite of the power wires where ever those are.

About the speakers, well, you can't really do much when you have so many more speakers than channels so what you meantioned will be your solution unless you want to get another amp or two. Just make sure you have dedicated amps for the subs if you are running any.

Sorry, I posted the original thread under the wrong name. I have an e36 and thank you for the information. Hmm, I'm not sure though if I'm going to have a long enough cable to run it through the headliner. Would there be any downside to going under the carpet on the left side or the transmisson tunnel? Thanks!

Well, it would seem that the trnany tunnel with the tranny in there would be probably sufficient enough to stop the electromagnetic waves but do you have any clue how much work it will take? You will most probably have to go back to the right side behind the rear seat to get into the trunk and let me tell you, that was a b*tch even when I only layed a thin 10 gauge wire for my Head Unit. Plus, you would be going through the same hole the power cable is layed through so I don't really know if there is much of a point to that. I really don't know which will take more wire but I know it will be a heck of a lot easier to go through the headliner, you can get into the trunk through your rear speaker location which is pretty easy, at least I think you would be able to. I would deffinately go through the top but it is you, not me. If you have any other questions about anything else, I will try to help you as fast and as much as I can. The interior of my car has taken apart by me a few times already and I know what where and how things are, so it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck and tell us how it goes.
