I've seen it anywhere from 5.8 to 5.4. Motor Trend claims they got a 5.4, why? I know that auto manufacturers always post conservative times but.... is 5.4 accurate? 5.4 sound very impressive to me. A friend of mine drives a 1999 M Roadster with the 240 hp S52 engine, they say that it does 0-60 in 5.2, he got it down to 4.8. And yes, I'm positive that it's the S52 engine and not the S54 for those of you that think I'm confused between the 2000+ and the pre-2001 versions.

Depends on conditions in weather and track, altitude, driver, the car itself, etc. Lots of variables. Manufacturers tend to stay conservative. Motor Trend tends to be faster cuz I guess they're test drivers are REALLY good.

Yeah, bmwusa.com even reports only a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds. Usually, I like to follow what the manufacturer reports, but now it seems that BMW overrates some of their 0-60 times as well.

I've actually seen in the catalog that BMW was giving out at the past LA Auto Show that the 2.5i z4's 0-60 time is 7 sec and the 3.0i 0-60 time is 5.9 sec. BMW has also listed these same times in BMW magazine when they were covering the z4.

I once read that when doing performance tests, BMW does them with a full gas tank and weights to simulate passengers. Then again they used to make cars that Pontiac imitated, not the other way around. Bangle[bash]
