Do you guys know what the best oil filter out there is?

I read someone post something about Mahle and I've read else where about Mobil 1 filters being good.

What do you guys think? [^]

Get OEM, no reason to keep looking for something better. Your car is old enough and probably had oem filters half its life. My e30 had oem filters its whole life and ran like a dream even at 182k miles.

its hard to find anything in this town i live in. had to settle for a Wicks. didnt have 3-4 days and $15-20 to order off of bavauto this time.

btw, i ran my Red line oil for 8k miles. it looked like it had only 3-4k on it. still thick, not too dark, viscous as brand new oil almost. i was amazed. if i had $9 to spend per quart, i would have bought it again. simply amazing compared to any name brand oil. changed my spark plugs and all too yesterday....my car is puring nicely today.

$15-20??!?! What, do you order them with canadian $$$? I pay $7.65 after taxes for mine, and my friend pays $7.45 (I believe) at the dealer for his (he has a 1994 325i).

www.autohausaz.com is much better than bavauto anyways (shipping isn't quite as fast, but thats becuase I live further away)

I also highly doubt redline will work miracles vs. any other oil, or else it would be used in ALL race motors. All synthetic will look better at a lot of miles than a regular dino oil.

Where did Jared say Redline would work, "miracles"? All I see him saying is that he was "amazed" because after 8k it looked as though it only had 3-4k on it! Redline is used in numerous race engines, when I crewed for Bright Racing in NASCAR Southwest Touring Series many crews used Redline oils as do many BMW CCA Club Racers, it was originally defveloped for the racing industry. I use Mobil 1 because I would rather save the $5 per quart difference. However I do use Redline in my trans, diff, and power steering, etc.

As far as the filters go, yes 15-20 dollars is a tad high. I pay about $6 and order three or four at a time, with shipping it comes to about $7.50 ea.

yeah i was even comparing to mobil 1 synthetic that i usually use. you can feel the wear in the oil at 4k, i was saying that the redline oil at 8k was like mobil 1 synthetic at 4k...twice the endurance, given that it is still dirtier, but the oil was still fairly stout.

one Mann filter on bavauto is like 9 something i think, plus shipping. the Wicks filter i bought at the auto store was 9 something also. the nearest dealership is 45 miles away, i'm not about to drive there for an oil filter. keep in mind i live in a texas town that doesnt have the richest people in the world. the only celeb that lives here is Neal Mccoy, and he grew up here, thats probably why. Other than that, this is a fairly low class town minus the doctors. we have about 3 auto parts stores to choose from, various locations for each. the average dealerships nissan, chevy, ford, etc....bmw, MB, and anything near that class is at least 45 miles away, or in Dallas 2 hours west of here. when my fuel pump went out, i had to have one overnighted from dallas....most shops around here wont even work on a BMW or MB. i can't always be to picky is my point, and i dont have the best deals available to me either.

new front rotors for my car are 45 a piece, Midas here wanted 80 plus tax to turn the ones i have on their now.....do you catch my drift yet?
