I just bought a second car: a 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE w/ 120K miles.

Im wondering what grade of gas I should be using. So far Ive gone with 93 octane, but Im wondering if I can go lower.

Because of the old age and mileage, Im thinking the higher octane will make up for lost compression.

Thanks,

It's probably designed for 87. It's not that old and the car's computer will make it run fine with 87. I know our 99 montana runs like crap on anything BUT 87.

It's not that old. I think you can run with 87. Try 89 and then premium if the car doesn't seem to like 87.

YOu could run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it to try and clear up the engine too.

Actually, it's the other way around with compression and octane. Higher octane is doesn't create more power, it allows higher compression which in turn creates more power. If compression is reduced as with an older engine, the need for high octane goes away.
