Good choice on the 330xi, Not true on the brake down Its only a big deal when you do not perform your maintenance. Go to RealOEM.COM to check parts on a 330ix.

No, they don't break down all the time. There's a reason their resale value's the highest. The parts can be expensive (maintenance or repairs) compared to non-luxury cars. However, if it's under warranty, you're good for a long time. BMW comes with maintenance included. It's the only one that has a true included maintenance. Only thing that's not covered is tires. Windshield wipers, brakes, all those other wear and tear items are covered.

Once it's out of warranty, just go to an independent service person that does BMWs. Then, it really isn't any more expensive than if someone with another brand took their car to the dealer to be serviced. Or, you can just do the work yourself. It's not like the cars are particularly complicated or anything.

I think it just depends. Some people get unlucky and have a problematic BMW...even if the car is brand-new and covered by warranty, it is no fun taking it into service all the time. Keep in mind that the BMW sob stories will be passed around far more than the BMW happy stories because people have nothing to say if the car doesn't give them any problems (plus BMW sells a whole bunch of cars).

If I were you, and you feel the 330xi is the right car for you, you should definitely go for it. The chances of having a single problem are very, very slim and BMW just builds great cars.

I've owned one super high mileage 3 series and now a high mileage 5. Friend has a high mileage but newer 3, and I know a few people with newer bmw's. I've never heard of one just simply breaking down, there is typically noises and stuff that lead up to breaking down. If you, unlike most people, do NOT ignore the sounds and stuff...you should be fine.

Plus parts are, yes, expensive. But they last for a long time. There might be one or two few weak points of parts you'll replace now and then but otherwise they should last for a long time. Elussive is right too, the 330xi is a great car. I have heard of no reports of weak points in the all wheel drive system, and it has a GREAT motor. Plus it's in a proven and reliable chassis.

Hollie, first off welcome to the board. Second, do what your heart tells you. If you are afraid the car won’t be reliable don't get one however, my experience with BMW's have been nothing but the great. You will find a lemon in every automobile, but overall BMW's quality is top notch and above the norm....

Good luck with your hunt for a new auto. I hope you decide on BMW. You won’t be disappointed. Once you've owned a BMW there is no going back.....

Hollie, I've owned my current 03 BMW 330xi since January 03 and believe it's the best made car I've ever driven, especially during winter month's here in New England. If you're buying new, just be sure to follow the maintenance schedule and BMW will take care of the rest. The car is a joy to drive, has every creature comfort that one could imagine, and has excellent safety features as standard equipment to boot. If you're buying used, insure the car has been well taken care of and obtain and inspect all service records. XI's are excellent cars. The BMW drivers on this message board have had positive ownership experiences. Take their advise.. buy the 330Xi.
