It's really weird that you posted this story today. A guy I work with just told me this afternoon a very similar story. His close friend got nailed for speeding in Virginia and after long legal negotiations he has to spend two days in jail. They don't mess around.......

Oh man, PA is a lot less strict. To me that sounds like cruel and unusual punishment (which what is "cruel or unusual" could be defined by each reader differently).

Thing is, most cops around here are very easy going despite what everyone else my age says. I never had any run-ins with cops, and they always let me go which i like :p

VA is a bad place to get a ticket. I have moved from Las Vegas to Arlington and back a couple of times. What a difference, it is like a free-for-all here; they let people get away with so much. But in VA it is a much different story, I understand those cops can be bad news and lie like no others.

I still like VA a lot, just be very careful and have a good attorney for any dealings with the local government. When I moved back to Las Vegas the last time, the VA tax deparment ran my SSN through IRS systems and sent me a huge tax bill for money NOT earned in VA, but earned AFTER I moved. What a long mess this was. I did win but it was like they were going to hammer me and ask questions later.

Places here in Europe at times will expect you to pay "THEIR" (the cops) fine on the spot. If you don't have the cola they take your licence and keys and leave your a$$ on the side of the road. Or take you directly to jail. I had a friend that went to Czech Republic and was pulled over for going under the speed limit. In Czech you HAVE TO pay your fine immediately or they take your car. Well this was 14 months ago and he still has yet to get his car back. Shady $hit goes on in these ex eastern block countries.

Racing is a serious offense in Georgia too...and in most states. I posted a while back about having to go to court for a class and I saw about six motorcyclists that were charged will over 100 in a 45 and also "racing." The prosecutor was asking for something crazy, like 30 days jail $1,000+ fine. They obviously asked for time to get a lawyer and said they wanted a jury trial.

There seems to be a club in Atlanta of motorcyclists who get together (12 and more) and take to the freeways and back roads. I've seen them several times. They are crazy fast...even on back roads...they almost run cars off the road. I guess the police are on to them.
