I like how that one driver they interviewed thinks they didn't do anything wrong by weaving in between the cones b/c they were "in control" while doing it.

damn. that sucks. its so easy to play in numbers and get caught. lucky our trip was heavy traffic in ATL, couldnt even speed if you wanted to. even still, one of your group went off the mountain anyway. cop charged him with not maintaining lane (probably out of pitty).
In HS, i would video tape all of our parties and midnight doings, much of which were illegal. being stoped by cops, that the last thing you want them to find.

Too funny. I'm not sure what's worse: driving that way or driving a VW.
Nothing wrong with rocking a dub. My little '95 2.0L has a lot of attributes that I wish that my '94 325i had. However, included in that list is neither a 2.0L engine or fwd.

And, I think that there are more than a few people on this board that think that weaving in and out of traffic cones like that would be a heck of a lot of fun. Not that it's something that I would do, but it's something that would be fun. At the risk of the construction workers there, no way. Of course they were idiots and got caught doing idiotic things and looking like an idiot on camera, but there's some of those in every group. I've read some stories on this board as well.

That all being said, I am definitely a bigger fan of the VW scene than the BMW scene. There's attributes of both that I like and dislike, but man, if I thought that VW owners were slightly snobbish, I was in for a suprise with the BMW community. That isn't to say that I haven't met helpful folks in the BMW community as well, but nothing like what I've found in VW. Perhaps it's just numbers that make a difference or perhaps the different makes actually attract different buyers. I mean, check out www.vwvortex.com and see the sheer number of people that post and how quickly the forum moves. There's plenty of morons on there, but lots of folks and information that help out a lot.

There's even a local vw scene (Pittsburgh area - Crooked Euros), although it's definitely inclusive of Audis and BMW's as well, that is fairly decent. www.rmweb.net

I personally bought my 325i to move my car tuning up to the next level. I took the VW 2.0L about as far as I wanted to take it (as far as it would reasonably and reliably go without supercharging it), and I wanted a more performance-oriented base to start from. I had been thinking and looking at some VW mk3 vr6's, but when I found the 325i and the deal that I got on it, I could not turn it down. I love the car, and certianly the craftmanship and the power. However, the thing still handles like a damn boat compared to my VW. Then again, it still has the stock suspension and some crappy crappy tires on it that I'll just have to burn through. Haha.

Anyhow, my point of the rant is don't rip on VW drivers. Honestly, they're pretty dang nice cars for what you pay for them, and the VW community is nothing to laugh at.

Yeah, I have to agree. VW makes some great cars, their only flaw being FWD but at least VW does a really nice job with FWD.

This whole thing seems kinda stupid. Yeah, they were weaving in and out of cones and stuff, but did you see ANY construction workers?? Very typical, they setup the cones and shit
And don't EVER feel bad for street/road construction workers, independant studies have shown that they are the most corrupt department in the US today. They always set up all this shit that blocks traffic and they work extremely slow (if at all) and they just log in mad hours as if they were really working.

Anyways, back to the VW drivers....they were just driving and having fun. The guy they interviewed really should have known better...he stated how if he gets one more ticket, his license gets suspended yet he was breaking the law anyways....that was stupidity on his part.

Knightpitt, VWVortex is definitely a great forum, I used to post over there when I had my Jetta but it does move extremely fast, as you stated.

No harm no foul then. I figured that I'd just stick up for VW drivers, as I am still a VW owner.

I actually like the new (A4) VW's less than the A2's and A3's. Okay, only a little less, though. I'd take a 1.8T engine in my mk3, though. Apparently the new A5's coming out a year from now are offering a 2.0T that I'd really like to see some folks do work to. The newest (A5) styling is really going to take some time to grow on me, though.

Yeah, the 2.0T should prove to be a better motor and hopefully a lot stronger for more tuning potential (Hahaha, as if the 1.8T motor wasn't tunable enough!).
I like the look of the current MKIV VW's (I had a 03 VW Jetta 2.0L 5-speed), but they are heavier than the MKIII so even though the 2.0L was modified a bit to perform better in the MKIV's, you still can't escape that added weight. My Jetta was frustratingly slow and had no options or anything, and basically it was a royal piece of shit. I tried modding it a bit to make it cooler and more fun to drive, but the car was still frustratingly slow, the stock suspension provided too much body roll, the interior was too basic (remember I had NO options at all), so I had to get out of it.

haha, actually, the same example popped up in my mind. I was totally imagining him being brought up on rape charges and him going, "No, everything is cool. She said 'no' but I had everything under control so it's all good." [slap]

I don't like vw's becuase they are front wheel drive - but hell, they are better than an american car.
Their cars being FWD is a HUGE draw-back, but they truly are great cars. VW's are the same as BMW's...they're truly drivers' cars, but significantly cheaper. They feel really great to drive and they feel the way a car SHOULD feel, just like a BMW. Hopefully VW will start putting their 4Motion AWD system on more of their models (such as the Jetta, Golf/GTI, etc.) because right now these cars being FWD is a HUGE turn-off for me after coming from a FWD Jetta.

What is the R32 Golf? I have seen a couple of these around post...and they look and sound mean as hell. Is this the VR6 replacement?, 'cause that VR6 was giving some Porches a run for their money in overall top speed. There is this kid here in Wiesbaden who has a VR6 that will hit 170mph...that is just NUTS. 152 mph in the 530i is moving, in a golf, I guess you would either have to be truly dedicated or just plain stupid.

It's a 240 hp AWD Golf that costs $30,000. It's sort of like an Evo/STi competitor that's a good bit slower but with a nicer interior.
