Using different gears w/ automatic

Anyone know if it harmful to "shift" an auto transmission? Don't have the steptronic. Sometimes its just nice to hear the engine rev in the lower gears. I know i should have just gottten a manual. Unfortunately it wasn't going to happen.

Also, anyone drive in the S3 gear regularly when not cruising the h'way?

I have an auto and yeah sometimes I shift thru the gears in manual mode. Usually when I'm just driving around town I'll do it for fun. Also, if I'm driving under 55 MPH I'll leave it in S3 mode. I dont have any real reasoning for it but I feel that it's best for the engine to cruise at around 3,000-3,500 RPMs. Just my personal preference though.
