i just dropped off the my car at the tunes shop. I'm soo excited ! I've been reading posts about MB quarts and the a/d/s speakers and found some dealers here in hawaii . well I went down to haggle with the guy. I already have a sub( alumapro 8 1/2 ) with a 2 ch MTX amp.

The sub helped but my HK system really sucks . So to get the post , I'm having a MTX 50 X 4 installed on the back of the seat next to my 2 ch. with 5 1/4 component Diamond speakers in my doors and rears. Its the M6 series and sounds brighter than the focals and a little cheaper .

I going to keep the stock look and the stock head unit . Can't wait to hear it . I'll pick it up in about 3 hrs.
What are some of you guys running out there ?Anybody got Diamond speakers ?

your set up sounds great. i haven't listened to the diamonds but if the're anything like focals they will kick some major ass. here's my set up..
alpine cda 9813 head unit
mb quart 5.25" q series comps all around
alpine mrv-f540 amp (80wattsx4)
RF HE2 12" sealed enclosure
RF 401s amp (400 watts rms bridged)

well It doesn't sound as good as I thought . The dealer says its because of the stock head unit not putting out enough juice. I have to turn the gain way up on the amp ( 50 X 4 ) and then I can hear some engine noise and alot of distortion with the volume up high.

here's what I have again

Diamond 5 1/4 component in front
6 1/2 component in rear

hooked up to a MTX 50 X 4 amp
total today was 1100 .00

alumapro 8 1/2 sub
Mtx 2 ch amp
Installed 1 month ago 500.00

so with about 1600.00 into a sound system and I'm not really happy ..I'm hoping that a good head unit will pull it all together .Since I'm getting married in march this year its going to be hard to get another 400.00 bucks . I'm disappointede to say the least .It sounds pretty tinny or hollow . The guy said the speakers would take acouple of days to " break-in" so I should comeback then and he'll tweak it some more. The guys at the shop stayed an hour aftre closing to finish my car up ..nice people and all so I think they 'll try their best to get this system running good ...any thoughts on this ..

i think you might be better off returning the amp and getting either an alpine or phoenix gold. mtx is notorious for poor sq. i have heard several people who have the same problem with engine noise at high gains. i'm currently running an alpine amp and couldn't be happier with the sq. if you you're on a budget try getting a rockford fosgate power amp. their highly efficient and are a great value in my opinion. the hollow sound that you describe may be due to the lack of midbass and low end frequency. the lower end frequencies can be achieved by upgrading to a 12" sub with at least 300-400 watts rms. the midbass sounds like it would be a problem with your speakers. i don't think upgrading to a different headunit will help all that much because you're already running a separate amp to power your speakers. hope this helps.

thanksfor the input . I went out this morning to listen again to see if things sound any better . but NO WAY ! The sound really sucks . The stock speakers sounded better ! [:(]

So its either the amp or the speakers right? I don't know alot about stereos at all , but I know when the music sucks . I'm soo depressed because my girl is mad that i spent that much money and I'm mad cause it sucks.. OK enough wining and time for action..

1. call the dealer and tell him something is definately wrong.
2. the speakers don't sound at all like they did in the showroom .
3. ask for replacement of amp and/or speakers .

here's a question for you guys that I'm asking myself all night lastnight How can high-end replacement speakers (components ) and a 4ch amp 50 x 4 sound worse than the stock system? [?|]

i bet your stock sound system sounded ok at moderate volumes but distorted badly at higher volumes. at least that's how most bmw stock systems sound. again i'm not too sure about diamond audio comps but they should sound better than stock. i would definitely change the amp first before replacing the speakers.

I left it at the shop today and told the guy what was up . He said the first thing he was going to do was change the amp to an Eclipse for the same price . No charge . Then to my surprise my lady started looking at decks ! I couldn't believe it . She wanted me to go in and demand my money back and have them put the old stuff back..

So now I'm " allowed " to get an Eclipse head unit . The car should be ready soon and it better be bumping...Thanks for the help man .. I really needed to vent alittle and tell my story . [mad]
