My father used to have that same problem when he had his MB E430 4Matic. The profile wasn't even that low and he just kept having problems on the same god damn highway. On the contrary, I have 245/45-18's rear and 225/45-18's front with Michelin Pilot Sport's and after all the shit I've hit on Cross Bronx Expressway and basically all NJ/NYC highways, I have never had a single flat tire or damaged rim yet (and these roads are UGLY!).
Have you tried using a set of Michelin Pilot Sport's? I have had good luck with my 18" Pilot Sport's so maybe you will, too...

I have pilot sports too, and I have never had any problems with getting debree (nails, screws, etc) stuck in them and I travel bad roads (Cross Bronx Exp) also. However, my dad has dunlops on his car and it seems every few months he finds nails and screws stuck in them and he travels pretty clean roads. Luckily his tires have all been repairable. I would try a different tire...
