Have any of you guys heard of the Tornado Performance Booster? I saw it in a JC Whitney catalog. Here are some links for more information. If anyone has any idea of how well these things perform, please let me know. I'm very interested.

bear, you better delete this thread. those things are ridiculous and we had a guy here just recently who tried to advertise that shit. he got torn apart, so better stop talking about it.

rather than that, search for that thread and find out [hihi]

I think you guys just haven't been installing them correctly. Are you sure you a large enough rear wing? A minimum of two rear spoilers with a total surface area of a small lawn is required. Also, did you properly install the "Powered by" and "Type R" stickers? For the proper vortex effect several large decals advertising the manuafturer of your stereo amplifier and windows tint must also be adhered to the vehicle. Without the other required mods, the Tornado is ineffective.

Wiley, you forgot another very important required mod for the Tornado. Since it improves air flow so much, it requires the ///M fender grilles to provide the additional air flow.

You guys are not nice! First of all you never tryed it so you can't say it does not work. Because it has this stupid commercial on TV, it doesn't mean it has to be bad. I don't believe that thing too much either. But.....

I would like to see somebody to buy it and go to a Dyno place and do some runs with and without it. Hopefully someone can make this happen.

And I would like to see the reaction of you guys if the TORNADO will really work.

A thread from the board is referenced above. A representative of the company posted a message about the tornado. After a bit of debate, he said that he was going to do dyno runs and post the results. He never came back. What does that tell you?

I checked this product out the last time we had this debate. Look at these evaluations of tornado:

Ok, there have been dyno runs I have seen on other forums with people that have bought a tornado... they have either the same HP/TQ numbers or they have lower numbers. Why don't you buy one and do some dyno runs to prove us wrong? You'll know that the tornado is just another snake oil to boost HP...

Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha, life with bmw, you crack me up!!

Why do you think people put larger air flow meters on their cars? Becuase, stock are kind of restrictive. All this does is take away probably 50% of the air allowed in! if not more! It's a huuuuge scam. Even if it DID vortex the air, have you ever looked at your intake manifold?? Not exactly a design to create or contain a vortex of air.

Personal experience with it right here! 1995.5 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4.

Did squat! No (noticeable) performance gain. Not even a little.

As for the gas mileage. 11 mpg with. 11 mpg w/out.

Was easy to install though. More importantly, was easy to take out and toss.

lifewithbmw, why are you asking others to try it if you are the one who wants to know? DIY and experience the non sense.

and one more ultimate proof, at least in my eyes, why it is scam. it promises to be a cheap but veeeery efficient way to increase power and decrease consumption. now then why don´t all automotive OEM´s use it from stock?? ever thought about that?

...that's the same reason stock intakes are small....the same could be said about your brakes, tires, exhaust, and anything else that could be better about your car (stock) but isn't. Manufacturers want to make the car at the lowest possible rate to them. Adding this thing (whether it works or not) will cost them money. They say nay. If people start believing in them, I wouldn't doubt for a second you could get one stock....and pay through the nose.

...don't take this as me defending the tornado. I am merely stating why it is not standard in most cars.

sure i know that $$$ are a major fact but considering this tornado booster (if it would work) in a way as for example the variable intake tubing systems you find in a car, it nothing else than further engineering and development. intake systems today work with different tube lengths and ways based on throttle position. that was developed and implemeted in the past. and before they decided to implemet it, they did cost research, risk and changes, surveys and shit like that. now, if a tornado would work the impact could be the same as with those developments.
or vanos. someone invented them through development. so could the tornado be a new thing.

i agree with you in terms of brakes and lights and stuff, cause they work properly and they way they do work they are efficient enough to please the public taste. the tornado effects gaz consumption and that is point where the consumer is never satisfied. they always want less for money and environmental reasons, and that i believe makes this sector a high priority one.

of course, it would need calculations etc....but if it would work and looking how cheaply this tornado is (material and technical wise) automotive industry could see a valid improvement for a reasonable increase in price. as they don´t, the tornado does not work [thumb]
