BMW has announced a limited run of a special 3 Series.

Called the 320si, the car has been manufactured to meet FIA homologation regulations for the 2006 BMW World Touring Car Championship.

The car features a largely hand-built four-cylinder engine producing 129kW (up 17kW) at 7000rpm and 200Nm of torque (up one newton metre).

BMW claim the si model hits 100km/h from rest in 8.1 seconds, 1.2s faster than the regular 320i but is still EU4 emissions compliant and capable of returning 8.9L/100km.

The engine has been significantly modified with larger inlet and exhaust valves fitted to increase flow, while bore has increased 1mm to 85mm and stoke decreased 2 to 88mm.

The compression ratio is up half a point and the pistons now run in special aluminium-alloy liners in the cylinder block. BMW's Valvetronic cylinder head is replaced by a conventional valvetrain due to the higher engine speeds at which the racing version of the engine operates at.

The cylinder head is cast at BMW's Landshut foundry alongside its F1 cylinder blocks while a carbon fibre engine cover is said to save 10kgs of weight up front.

AdvertisementAdvertisementJust 2600 of these special BMW's will be made but none will be coming here unfortunately with the UK swallowing up the entire right hand production.

Based on the M-sport model, the si features a front and rear aero kit, sports seats, sports suspension and aluminium interior trim.

The E46 325i with an Automatic Transmission still matches it, the 5-speed even wins... [hihi]

I think that car is made for a Green race? (Low Emissions)

That's exactly what I'm thinking...
Well when the gas prices take off again (regular is under $2 again in NJ) and everyone is driving Priuses, I think 0-60 in 8.1 is going to be preferable and fast.

I concur, I never said it was a "fast" car, but than again fast is relative!
