Strangest thing happened in my car the other day...

Ok, so I'm driving to school like I do every morning. It's a 35 minute drive that involves taking the parkway, but I always get there in less than 20 :) Anyway, I pulled off at the exit and went thru the toll. Stopped at a stop sign and accelerated to the next light - no problems. When I was stopping at the light I noticed the braking action felt a little weird but thought nothing of it. But when the light turned green I tried to accelerate and the car just CRAWLED and took forever to start moving even with me flooring it. I looked at the dash and the transmission light was on! So I'm driving now just down the street from my school and I can tell the car will not downshift from 4th gear. I tried to put it in manual mode but that wouldnt work either. I just made it into the parking lot and I was really late so I couldn't check anything out - I didn't try the car in reverse, which I should have, but whatever. I disconnected the battery cable and when I was done school everything worked fine... What could have caused this?

Ecu [:(]

atleast, it sounds related to that. Or a tranny problem.

Anything that involves your automatic transmission, wether it be ECU problems or the tranny itself, you can have fun writing a check with 4 digits.

I don’t know what caused it, but it sounds like a feature that my E34 auto had that locked the trans into third gear when something was malfunctioning. Given this was with the E34, but it may be similar, hope it helps. Limp mode.
