Stick-on wheel weights?

i've recently rec'd my (set of 4) winter tires and rims (blizzaks ws-50's) from tirerack.com and noticed that the wheel weights used for balancing the tires are "stick-ons" placed on the inner side of the rims. Is this a common practice? I've only ever had experience with the type of weights that attach to the edge of the rim where it meets the tire.

Any opinions?
Thanks!

Yeah, It's becomming more and more common. They're safer for the wheels finish. In 5 years, I've only had one come off. Also they can be positioned in a optimum place instead of having to be on the edge of the wheels like clamp on weights.

vlad...thanks for the reply!

it just seems like these stick-ons would come off easier than a clamp on.
Like if you use a pressure washer to clean your wheels, you'd think that would have a tendency to loosen the adhesive on the stick-ons after awhile.

Also, when clamp on weights are used, they usually place them in the inner side of the wheel where you wouldn't notice if it scratched the rim a bit. Since the wheels are aluminum alloy they wouldn't rust, even if they did get knicked on th outer edge.

Point taken on the pressure washer, but realistically, you shouldn't be putting enough force out with the pressure washer to actually remove one of the stick on weights. There is also paint there that could be removed by such a force.

Stick on weights are the most gentle on a wheels surface, so you shouldn't have to worry about and nicks or scratches.

If your really worried about the weights coming off, you can put duct tape over the weights. that is what they do on track/racing wheels. The wheels gets so hot that if you don't put the tape on, the weights will fly off.

lol that makes no sense. first off there is no way the duct tape would stay on longer than
the glue used for the weights. secondly the wheels don't get hot at all. lol

Brakes generate a LOT of heat while tracking, (heck, even on the street). The heat from the rotors is transferred from the rotors to the wheels from the rotor to wheel contact and lug bolts.
