I am trying to replace the stock unit in my 318ti. I bought a harness and hooked up my new pioneer but no sound. I spoke with circuit city and they told me i would have to rewire the entire car if i had a amplifier because they did not have a harness for that. What do I need to do to get this new stereo in? I also did not have the code when I went to put the old stereo back in. I took it to the BMW dealership and the computer could not find the code. Any suggestions on getting around this need for a code or what should I do?

are you hooking up an amp as well as the head unit?

if its just the deck, then all you need it the harness. make sure that you hook up the remote turn on lead, your car does have a stock amplifier, and it needs that signal to turn on. it should be blue with a white stripe.

if you have another amp you want to put in, then yes, you have to rewire the whole car.

i believe the wire on the harness is gray. it should say remote on it, depending on what brand of harness you bought. there should have been a color code on the plastic package as well....if not, then you'll have to call who you bought it from and ask.

the wire on the harness was light blue but the remote wire from the head unit was blue and white
Started working on hooking up another amp and some speakers and running the power wire from the battery has been very difficult. Havent found anywhere to run it through.
