like the US interstate system (which was copied from the Autobahn) except better built (close attention to detail, more concrete used, etc.) and no speed limit (in the last few decades speed limits have slowly emerged however due to an increased number of cars and traffic with the no speed limit areas being in the less urban areas)

its a big cultural icon of germany nowadays (as nothing else like it exists throughout the rest of the world) and the supporters of no speed limits are very strong & influencial

various speed limits are already imposed on many parts of the autobahn at certain times of day. not to mention you cant tell if the lighted speed limit signs are infact signs or radar with cameras. but instilling a flat top end is rediculous IMO. there isnt jack shit between dortmund and liepzig - thank god i was driving a mercedes! whoop, did i say that?

and between the two "interstate" systems, us and euro, i think the "interstate" autobahn is a copy of the Eisenhower system, but speed limits not used in various places in europe.

supporting the last statement, the no limit ideals of the autobahn is not only considered only on the "highway/freeway" like roads. autobahn, in germany, can be considered a well developed two lane as an extended stretch between two towns. basicly when ever you see the white circle with three bars and nothing inside.

i got the Autobahn video on the history channel and it says they try to do this but make hte comparison "the Autobahn lobby has the same amount of power as the Gun lobby here, and the cry of the people is 'free roads for free people' and as long as the people demand this and have backing of thier felow Germans then the roads will stay free" or something like that, i dont think its gonna happen, or if it does then it will be taken out like 6 months later
