I set up a pair of 10 inch subs with a 400 watt amp in my boot and when I got them cranking I could only hear them with the boot open I later found out that the boot has about 5 layers between it and the car interiour. So I had to set up tem in the inside of the car,has anyone else had this problem if so what did you do? vincenzo

Which direction are you firing your woofers? What type of subwoofers do you have?

400 Watts powering two 10" woofers is not a lot.

it should be enough. you ight have them wired wrong. check your wiring very carefully, one sub might be cancellig the others movement (if one sub is wired + - and the other is - +. i did this once, and it sounds like thats your problem. mkae sure they are wired correctly.

bass should carry through five layers of metal, or soft fire proof material. the only way it wouldnt is if it was layers of dynamat or somthing like it.

also, to maximize the amplitude of the frequencies the subs play, they need to be facing whichever direction is farthest from a wall. otherwise you'll kill the sound waves before they can even develop.

try those and let me know if anything changes.

That's true.

The infinity basslink (which is the ONLY self-powered sub for a car that is really worth the money) is 200 watts for a 10" woofer. Remember, this sub has a passive woofer, so the bass will be deeper and louder without more power.

I'd say, especially if you have them hooked up to ONE amp, to go with atleast 600 watts.

i had 2 10s recieving 200 watts each in my old car, i know how loud it is. trust me, depending on the person, that is plenty. you can hear it and most definetly feel it. he says he cant even hear it. there's a problem with something other than power (which doesnt give more spl/volume/loudness).

i know a guy in michigan that can take 400 watts, a custom box, and get 140+ dB's out of it....just to prove to you that power doesnt give more spl. though, power is a factor in spl....the general rule for power in car audio: to gain 1-2 dB's, you have to DOUBLE the current power. that means that even if he sent 800 watts to the subs he has now, they might blow of course, but more importantly, they'd only be a few dB's louder at most.

again, check your wiring.

I finished rewiring the subbs today and I think that it was a prob with the wires from the car sterio to the subbs because when I put the subs inside the car and changed the wires and they seem to be working fine.
Thanks fellas.
