And wasnt thinking and almost hit someone when I let it roll back a little too much. Anyone else hate when people pull up 1" away from your bumper on a hill at a light?

Usually NYC drivers do that... mainly the Buses and Taxi cabs because "everyone" here has an automatic transmission, at least according to them. (They all have autos)

yea those that creep all the way up your rear bumpers sure are annoying.. then again, manual drivers that rock back and forth is kinda annoying too [:p] (fun to do, annoying to watch) ^^;;

if it really concerns you tho, you can always engage the clutch halfway before stepping off the brake. instead of flooring just to avoid rolling back. just not as fun right? [;)]

Don't floor it or half disengage the clutch, just use the ebrake! Just hold the button in and pull hard enough (doesn't take much) that you don't roll back.

Or if you want, learn the car real well and how to drive a standard. [:D]

I'll half engage the clutch while on the brake to hit friction point. Once I let off the brake (if you know the car) you should just take right off without rolling back and not having to floor it... [driving2]

Yea thats not to hard. You can catch the clutch very quick if you know how to drive it well. I love bouncing it because it scares the people behind me. :) Plus a new clutch isnt a big deal, when it goes, its getting upgraded.

Do that when a $500 91' Honda is sitting behind you and they just might not get scared... but jealous and mark your bumper.... just saying, I wouldn't have the guts to do that in my 40k bimmer let alone a 50k M3.[paranoid]

I dont understand why they would be jealous. Plus I dont know where you live but there is never a 91 Civic behind me.

Lots of shitty cars in NYC, lots of shitty drivers. Although NYC is flat so I don't really have to worry about that. I use the E-brake technique, my father taught it to me when I was first learning stick shift (when I had my Jetta) and I practiced it a lot on my uphill driveway. It's quite easy, just use the E-brake to hold the car and start engaging 1st gear like normal....as soon as you have clutch contact, bring the E-brake down. It sounds complicated and unnecessarily annoying, but once you learn how to do it well, it becomes very fluid and easy.

yes, yes i do... im forced to floor it... not a pleasant way of going about your day (gets their attention though)
I just slide my foot so that i can press the gas down till it's at about 4000 RPM, and then at the same time, I let go of the brake and drop the clutch. bastards.

I've only done that once, but it scared the shit out of the idiot.

<----------------Wishes he can drive stick
<------- Wishes he had a bmw with a stick.

But yea, in NYC everytime i see a person moving back and forth I leave extra room and give em extra time. Ive seen a person slam into a another person like that, but not bad, just a tap. Its mainly taxis who tailgate or stop infront of you.. thats the main thing you need to worry about here.

Yeah, taxis do get very close in the city, but I always take my car into NYC every week-end and I have never had a roll-back problem. NYC is mostly flat and the cabbies and other drivers aren't TRYING to hit your bumper, so if it does happen it's because the stick shift driver probably let his/her car roll back too much.

When some jerk is really close to me, I'll purposely roll back till I'm really close to their car, and then I'll do a perfect take-off just to be a show-off. Once I did that and I pissed the driver off so bad that he felt it absolutely necessary to blow past me on a one lane road while giving me the finger. I found is somewhat amusing that he was driving a Bimmer as well.

I've never really had the guts to floor it and do it that way, maybe one day when I get my car back I will.
