Im selling it.
I am absolutely fed up with that car.
Its been sitting for a month now, it had an electrical problem, the engine would turn off and not start back up again for a bit, when a diagnostic device was connected, turns out it was not getting data from the throttle body, okay it was properly cleaned out, reconnected.. problem persists. Turns out that the ECU is messed up, I popped in a new ecu out of a wrecked A4, there's still a check engine light, but the car runs properly, just at 150hp since there is no chip. I had a new cv axle put in, valve cover seals done, cam shaft seals, suspension components, new rotors and pads, and a new Spec Stage II clutch. I am just [:(!] steamed.

Im hoping I can sell it for around 8000 - 7500 especially since all these parts where put in (around 3k in stuff, I bought the car for 5900, so I wouldnt be loosing out much.)

Im thinking of a GTI 1.8T with half the mileage of my A4. Buuut. Im open to suggestions, especially since the GTI is FWD, and I much rather have a RWD or AWD car. Other stretches are: Subaru Impreza RS (coupe body) and do a STI engine swap. Or try for an WRX. I really want something turbo'd

Sorry I needed to rant somewhere. The lack of a car has been making my life harder especially since the ML has been out of reach. (father on a trip..)

Sorry about your luck.......... seems to be the issue with all newer cars. If one thing goes wrong, it breaks everything else. The Audi mark is a great car, just as BMW. As you recall I had that 2004 530i with NOTHING BUT ISSUES. I stuck with BMW and have had no issues with the X3 or the 525d. If you like the Audi... get another one. ooooooorrrrrrr get on board and buy a Bimmer!!!!

The problem with BMW is.. I cant afford what I really want. Id settle for an E30 M3, or E36 M3, or a E34 M5. But all are out of my range both purchase wise, and maintenance wise.

If I were to get a 328is or 325is, or a 535i or 540i they wouldnt really satisfy my need for a quick very tunable car =/

Man that is tough Matt....I would say look for another A4 with a better history and lower mileage.....getting an AWD or RWD car with a turbo for the price you are looking for is a hard one to call.......Have you thought about getting an E36 with relatively low mileage(a good 318is comes to mind) and then dropping a supercharger in it? Or are you set on a turbo form of force induction? The golf GTI actually sounds good to as it is more likely to be better taken care of than the "japanese" cars due to its pseudo-exclusivity(LOL..is that a word?) And I guess you are talking about the Golf III model? What about a nice Jetta 1.8t? (Gloss Black! or Gloss Red!)

Hey buddy, sorry to read about your bad luck.

First off, fix your sig, 800 width is way too wide and every post you make screws up the alignment.

Secondly, is the car sitting or running? You said you popped in a different ECU and it runs but with check engine light and only 150hp. Why don't you just purchase a new aftermarket ECU for the car and see what happens? Your car is awesome and I wouldn't give up on it so easily.

A well-maintained E36 may be your best bet. Also, the WRX and how about a Merc C230 Kompressor coupe? VW/Audi seems to be one of the most troublesome makes. If you want something sporty how about a Nissan Z or RX-8 or even a Miata?

Dude that blows! I'm lucky my 12v is running great... Get a 328is. You'll be satisfied with it. It will be reliable good transportation that can be fun too. Good luck.

PS: Check out the CE light and FIX that. NObody wants to see a CE light on a prospective car...

Not sure where you get this information from, VW's are some of the most problem free cars you can buy. I literally know hundreds of people with VW's and they absolutely swear by the mark. Any car is prone to any number of problems. I had a 2004 530i that I paid over 50k for, and I sold it because it was a lemon, doesn't make BMW a problem ridden mark of cars.

Sorry to hear Matt, are you open to putting that $7k down and making payments?

Also what are you looking for in the next purchase?

- Performance?
- Luxury?
- Or Both?

Definitly a mix of both, What do you mean by putting 7k down and making payments?

Definitley looking at a 328is, possibly a 325is but most likely a 328is. Im going to go to a few dealer auctions along with my mechanic and see if I can spot a deal or two. Might just nab another car that may be a good deal.

I've never had a VW/Audi but almost everyone I know who's had one has had lots of problems. Most owners love the way they drive but just get tired of fixing them. Check out myvwlemon.com for some horror stories. It's the only mark I know of that has a website just for owners to bash their cars.

The thing is about Audi/VW is that the problems that DO occur are USUALLY relatively easy to fix compared to other cars....and you have to remember a 1.8t, emphasis on the "T", is a little more complicated compared to VW other NA engines.....VW's are a dime a dozen over here and parts for fixing them are easy to come by and relatively easy to install without the arm and leg you pay from other marks such as BMW and Mercedes, etc, etc...

@mclarensmps: Thanks! I try not to get my own drool on the car everytime i drive it!
