SMG Probs?

Hello all...I posted this in the M3 thread and got no response so I was wondering if anyone can give me some info b/c it's starting to become a trend (i.e. It happens almost every morning).

I went to start my car (E46 M3 SMG) this morning after the temp dropped here in STL to around 25 degrees overnight. I put the key in, put the car in neutral, and turned the key. The dashboard computer said I was in 1st gear and the car wouldn't start. I did this 3-4 times and got the same result. Finally, the computer said it was in neutral and my car started. This was the second time it has occurred, both on cold mornings.

Any thoughts or has anything similar happened to you??

Thanks
Brian

I think the computer might have a problem or the cold could be causing the tranny to act quirky. I would definately take it into the dealer if it irks you...

This goes to support what I've said for several years, BMWs behave a little funny on cold morning statups.

SMG issues

I have been having a similar probelm the last couple of weks. It actually sticks while I am driving. It went into neutral once on it's own and woudn't let me go back into gear. I took it to the dealers yesterday and they said they didn't know the problem - just topped up the fluid and did a software upgrade. No problem today. It only seemes to happend when extremely cold weather - though didn't happen last winter.
