Small accident. Where should I go?

I have an '04 530i and asked a friend [B)] to pull it out of the driveway for me. In doing so, he scraped against the side of a fence and put a dent in the top of the rear door, right of the handle, and scraped paint in several sections (circled on the picture). Needless to say the past 12 hours have been quite depressing.

Do you recommend I take this to BMW service, or elsewhere? And if anyone can give a guestimate, about how much do you think this will cost to repair? Thanks for any help.

The usual standard is $1,000.00 per damaged panel on the car, for example one door = one panel, one fender = one panel, etc. Since you have damaged paint paintless dent removal is out of the question, I am going to say $1,500.00 total. Remember this is just a guess. If your BMW dealer has a body shop I would do it there otherwise get their recommendations.

I agree with big daddy ask the dealer for their preferred bodyshop and depending on the cost you might wanna put it through insurance...(HIS/HER insurance) Just so you know, you have a very Stupid and incompetent friend, I don't know about you but if I ever let someone drive my car (highly unlikely, heck if I were drunk I'd sleep it off in my backseat with the keys in my pocket and the car locked) and they did something stupid like this they'd be in for a beating... You know backing up isn't that hard, and enjoy those Eagle RS-A's.

oh man, i'm sorry to hear and see that. i feel for ya. hope you find a good place, (another ditto for dealer recommended shop) and i'd say, you'll prolly have to have insurance step up to get it fixed. your FRIEND'S insurance. and altho i doubt you'll have to replace anything, if you have to, make sure its OEM!

I think your friend needs to learn how to drive. I've done stupid things before, but I never have any problems backing up in a driveway.
my friend destroyed my mail box while backing out in his, pimpin parents' boat of a caddy, back in HS. oh and the jackass never paid for it, just laughs about it once in a while.. ...

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I'm still coming off shock, but it's done and I am getting it fixed through his insurance. Appraiser is coming by today. It's actually 3 panels that have been damaged, according to the BMW dealer. I just want it fixed. I hate driving a car with scratches, with everyone thinking I can't drive. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson about letting anyone drive my car. I just really didn't think anything could happen by pulling out of a driveway. [scratch]

You'd be surprised how difficult backing out of a driveway or parking is for some people. Giving it some thought, you probably run less of a risk letting someone drive slowly down the street, than letting them park your car or back it out. Let alone that car, theres a reason why luxury cars aren't for rent, unless you pay big $$$, it's because people don't appreciate or respect what they don't own/deserve.

My wife backed her ML320 out of the driveway and the passenger rear bumper smashed into my work car (Mits Galant) and wiped out its driver rear quarter panel !!!!!. The Galant driver front panel got smashed while she was making a left turn onto oncoming traffic !!!!

I watched a Benz in my high school parking lot back out of a space and right into a little Honda. Apparently, they didn't even notice what they were doing for a while because the dent in the Honda's door was a perfect right angle where the bumber went in, so they had to have been going really slow, and it about 6 inches deep. I heard the driver of the Benz was some spoiled jerk, so I had a giggle.

Oops !
Quote in earlier reply: '...The Galant driver front panel got smashed while she was making a left turn onto oncoming traffic !!!!'

What I meant was the passenger rear panel go t smashed. What this means is both the rear panels (left and right) were damaged by my boss !!!!

My car sucks for backing up and parallel parking and shit. The combination of the small rear windshield (aimed/angled upwards) and the way the sides stick out over the rear wheels makes it difficult but I've never actually backed up into something.
