[V] [V] On December 13th some stupid B*tch decided to slam on her brakes on the ice cuz she got scared...causing a bunch of cars to collide my self and my two kids where in my bimmer and where part of the whole chain. i believe if i where in a rice mobile or an american car we would have been injured but we made it without a scratch... my car didn't fair so well and i fear she may be totaled.. she is at a reputable BMW certified repair shop right now. i only had her for a couple of months but she was a great car.. it is a sad day indeed.. i wil be surprised if it isn't totaled.. but if it is any one selling a low mile 328i... i may be in the market..

You never know...I was slammed in the rear @ 28mph by a Full size bronco and my car only had $7k worth of damage to it and they fixed it. Hec, at least you and your kiddren are fine. DO you have pictures?

Was both the front and back end hit?

sorry to hear mike, glad everyone is ok, and the car did its job. i don't know if you are hoping for her safe return or not, but either way, hope everything works out.

so you gonna change your screen name to 4th bimmer after all the tributes are paid to the 3rd? if it comes down to it..

I am very happy to hear you and your two kids were OK. This is a very good reason to want to purchase another bimmer. Hope your search is successful and everything turns out OK.

thanks all... the bimmer community is far and away a step above.. it takes the ultimate human being to drive the ultimate driving machine.. i find out today if she is a gonner.. i think it would have been ok if the dipshit tow truck driver didn't pull it sideways for 50 feet and bend the rear wheel completly under the car. he said he couldn't wait around for the other tow truck guys to untangle everyone else... he still may get a visit from me if my car is totaled because of what he did.... we'll see how he likes getting drug sideways for 50 feet..

It might not be a bad thing. looking at it from the bright side you could be getting a check from the insurance company and start your last minute Christmas shopping fever. Best of all you'll have no idea how the car will drive like after a serious collision as you discribed.

as if the car hadn't gone through enough! it pisses me off when people don't respect other people stuff! "i couldn't wait?" well you have to remember how much in demand the tow truck drivers can be.. Bull Fookin Crap!! sorry i can't say anything nice to calm you down mike... there must be something that can be done! again, i hope things work out for the best.

That really sucks!! Fortunately the tow truck driver who came for my car was very careful, used the tow hook and seemed to know what he was doing.

They might not total it, but if they do - like someone else said, the car did its job. It did save your life. I know the feeling!! Standing there at the scene of the accident, not sure if you should cry or just be happy that your car held up so well and saved you from a lot of pain.

You shouldn't get screwed over too bad in the end - but insurance is good at screwing people over becuase they do it every day multiple times a day. You will be low balled on the value of your car - make sure you let them know how much 97 328i's go for.

BTW Who's your insurance provider? Mine was state farm and they did a good job except for determining the value of my car. I'm going to talk to my agent in a few days about it.

But all in all - you'll find another car that you'll be happy with (if thats the case). I dont know about you, but I'm glad they didn't decide to repair my car... its rare for a car to be completely "straight" after repairing it from a bad accident.

Good luck!!

Sorry about your accident Mike, tragic...however this quoted statement is soooooo true. A buddy of mine has (had) a 2000 540i (beautiful), three weeks ago he hit some ice and slammed a guard railing. He got his car back, and now he is having MAD issues with everything. I believe his should have been totaled, 17k euro worth of damage. He has since dropped it by the BMW dealership and refused to take it home until either the issues are fixed or they total his car.

At any rate, GOOD LUCK and Merry Christmas.

Update!

well i finally got a call back from my insurance company... (allstate) and they decided to fix it.. it has $8200 in damage and the estimate the worth at about $13500... so it is going to be fixed.. i looked at it at the colision center and it looks pretty good for what it was through... they checked all the frame points and everything is still straight.. looking at the body seams the appear to be equAL AND STRAIGHT. it needs rear control arms and a new sway bar link. all the suspension monting points look to be true. the front damage isn't as severe as i thought.. the rad lower suport is crushed a bit and the radiator and condensor are leaking.. all of the airdam plastic is shot the corner lights are shot. driver door driver fender and all four wheels are now scuffed and or bent.. the collision center i have it at is bmw and mercedes certified and have an excellent reputation the guarantee it wll be right when i get it back. i can only hope. i miss my baby..

I'm glad everythin worked out.... keep your eyes open for anything that isn't "the same as before" so you can bring it back under warranty and have the body shop fix it. After I got my car back from my accident, whenever I hit bad bumps, sometimes my left Xenon headlight flickers quickly (used to not have this problem, and it's very hard to notice) and last night it totally went out, but then turned on again after I turned the lights off and then on. This is just an example of a "little thing" you should keep your eyes out for, but I hope your car is back in perfect condition. [thumb]

i have found a couple of little things one of my wheels is bent slightly so there is a little vibration that at first i didn't notice but when i am on a smooth road i can feel it. but one disturbing thing happened though i started out driving on friday when the car was cold and it seemed like the transmission studdered and caught.. it hasn't done it since but is seems to shift a little different maybe it is my imagination. my tranny cooler was replaced so i am going to bring it back so they can make sure that they got the fluid level correct. i understand that these transmissions are more finicky about proper fluid levels than earlier models. i cant even see where to check the level at .. how do you do it on this car??
