Anyone have satellite radio? I am thinking about getting my wife a satellite radio setup for her car. (She loves health radio/tv shows, and i figure it would be nice to have with a couple kiddos) Any have it? Any recommendations, tips, info, or experiences?

Thanks,

Nick

I have Sirius satellite radio in my car, built into the vehicle. It really is a great service as you get high-quality audio, 70 commercial-free music channels where all the songs are uncensored, and a variety of talk/sports/entertainment/news programs.

The easiest way to get satellite radio into her car is to pickup one of those radios that you mount to the windshield via suction cups, or something like that. You power the unit through a power cord and you typically mount the antenna outside the car. Usually these units transmit the signal wirelessly through the FM transmitter on a pre-set station, so you lose the digital qualiy of satellite, but it is the quickest and easiest setup.

The more you are willing to pay, the more of an integrated setup you can get.

Checkout Crutchfield.com's section on car satellite radio:

I also have Sirius. I have a Sportster with several docking stations, so I can move it between cars and the house. I love it. It's really nice in that you can always find a channel that exactly suits your music mood at the moment. I'm a big blues fan, the blues channel is fantastic. And yeah, I listen to Stern.

Have Sirius built in. We have a second Sportster in the house; my son likes the NFL games. The second subscription is only about $7 or 8 per month I think. Also, you can listen to the music channels over the internet with a subscription.

Love Channel 22 First Wave and Ch 18 Spectrum. Overall, the music is amazing; I rarely listen to CD's. However, I did get a device for listening to my ipod thru the FM. I don't think you can have both Sirius and the direct ipod adaptor--tell me if I'm wrong. However, with the new cabrio coming by next spring hopefully, I doubt I'd do anything that cost too much.

And yeah, I listen to Stern. [thumb]

XMSR here..excellent music...sports, and talk radio...I have a temporary hook-up with the magnetic antenna wire thru the sunroof. there are a bunch of temporary brackets that you can use, and it gets its signal thru the FM receiver in the car...the comedy channels are hilarious, but you probably shouldn't listen to them with kids in the car....
