We are purchasing a 330i with run flat tires. We have heard this makes for a bumpier ride. Can anybody verify this? We did opt for the sports package which I know will impact the ride some.
Thanks.

if you're talking a brand new 3 series, then the ride wont be effected. BMW designed the suspension to handle the harder sidwalls of runflats.

hell, i dont care what epj3 says, the rft's suck. i have an e90 and just switched from bridgestone's rft's to michelin's ps2's. you can 100% notice the difference in ride, traction, bump feel, and noise.

if i were you i would take the rft's off right away and sell them on ebay. if you wait you are looking to pay in the long run if you want to switch to regular tires. my bmw deal (you can save maybe a $100 a tire shopping around) wanted $350 a tire when i rolled over a nail. i was really thinking over what to do. one new tire would be around $350 but after realizing that the other rear tire was more than 50% worn i was told i would need two i.e. $700. so i said great, screw rfts and give me two regular tires in the back and leave the only slightly worn rfts in the the front. NO, you can do that said the tire people. cant have rfts on one axle and regular tires on the other. so long story short one nail cost me 4 tires. to cap it off i figured i could resell the good front rfts on ebay. but the dealer spit/broke the sidewall, suposedly because the tires had been on for a while?

ANYONE LIKE RFT'S? please tell me why? the tread wear rating is low around 180, wow! the damn things will only get you 50 miles farther down the road and you cant really repair them? you need a special machine (cant go anywhere) to put them on. they cost a ton. i cant justify, the extra $ for blowout protection. someone please tell me, why?

I didn't say I like them, I would never buy run flats and would never keep them on my car. No point in 'em except to save BMW money with their roadside assistance program. I was just saying that the overall ride quality isn't terrible with them. Personally, a can of fix a flat in the trunk will do a much more adequate job than a runflat, and its only $5

As you all recall I had runflats on my E60 530i and the tires were worn down to wire in 22000 miles, I would never buy runflats again, but I have heard (to play Devils advocate) that the run flats are life savers (literally) in the evnt of a blow out.

i agree that a blowout would be bad. however, i feel that is a problem with cheaper tires. im not saying blowouts are never gonna happen but i am curious as to which tires this happens to? anyone had one recently (past 5 years?) i bought michelins and feel they are the best tire company period. i am hoping the extra $ equals a better tire.

you could also make the argument that the extra grip, and stopping power might actually save you in some cases where run flats wouldnt... i know for sure the ps2 get WAY better wet traction........think about it...
