News came in this morning. The last independant car maker in the UK is bankrupt. Though they themselves still deny it, economy and politics in England yet confirmed it.

On top, the production at Rover is on hold as subsuppliers stopped delivereis due to the economical situation of their customer. Today we got the official order to cancel all running orders as Rover filed for bankruptcy.

Somehow it is s shame that another traditional brand goes down the drain. Though I never liked the cars much, I still feel sad for the brand.

That is what my link says, "Rover Group" . The link in parts states; "Spring 2000: BMW decides to break up the Rover group after losing £600 million in one year, prompting observers in Germany to dub Rover “the English patient.”
ril 2000: BMW’s talks with the Alchemy venture capital firm collapse because of “certain conditions of contract”, raising fears for the future of the huge Longbridge factory."

and; "May 2000 Car giant Ford completes the £1.8 billion purchase of Land Rover from BMW as the break up of the Rover Group is finalised."

"Winter 2004: Just before Christmas, MG Rover announces plans to appoint more dealers and signals price cuts and product improvements to try to boost sales. It admitted sales in 2004 would be below 120,000, the worst for a decade."

"March 2005: Figures show the firm sold 12,545 cars in March, down by almost 17% on March 2004."

Sorry I didn't mean to confuse anyone with my comment. As Big D points out, BMW used to have the group. BMW re-did the Land Rover Range Rover on a 7 series platform before Ford got ahold of it. That's why I call my bro's truck the BMW Range Rover. It's all BMW parts bin, even down to how the doors open, seats and switches work, etc...even a BMW engine in his. (They will now have Jag engines in them starting this year.) It's a great truck, that's why I was saying I kinda wished BMW had held on to Land Rover (but not the crappy cars).
