a friend and i were talking about this vid, the guy must have been placed so far back because he didnt even bother to try and qualify - thats "bad ass" talking for you, when you dont even bother, knowing you can pass the whole pack. heheh

the screaming sound you hear is not a turbo, you can actually hear the engine in the background and the rpm is much different from that of the scream. The tranny is a sequential straight cut gear box. its got no syncros. the scream is the same sound you might find in your reverse gear.... that tranny rocks!

Awesome video, but the guy has a clearly superior car. He could take the turns faster, and his acceleration was much quicker than all the other cars on the track....

I don't get it, if that's not the turbo, then why the hell is it so fast? There's no way that car is normally aspirated. He rapes everyone, especially the Porsches. It seems like his ratios are extremely close, his engine nearly stalls when he starts off in the beginning. Is there anywhere we can get more info on this car? Or is it "secret" ?

I agree. The pitch never decreases when he shifts, so the scream is coming from the final drive train - tranny output shaft or maybe rear end.

And it can still be a turbo or a blown (supercharged) engine.

ouch my ears i would not be able to stand that noise if i was driving that bimmer i would have to kill my self. but it is really fast

Rolf van Os' car specs are apparently not published but he races GT class and its obviously a 320i E36 STW

He didnt have a qualifying time for that race at Assen.

You are correct, that scream is the sequential gearbox by Getrag. That trans runs around 15k.

Yeah, Quaife makes a transmission for VW's that is similar in design (and price). That transmission looks like it is absolutely amazing for racing, but I have more respect for drivers who use 3 pedals and row their own gears....
