Bavauto.com sells these radar evading licence plate covers. Also that if a camera takes a picture that it will blur out the numbers on your plates..... [confused]
Any truth or personal experiences?

how would it evade radar?? Doesn't radar get reflected from headlights and/or any other part of the car??

In pennsylvania we don't have liscence plates in the front and i've been pulled over many times.....

and how the hell would it blur a picture?? Is this a big device hooked up to your electrical system or is it just a plastic cover? I guess if it had a screen with something going across it a million times a second maybe, but if its just a cover, i call BS for both that it claims.

I don't know....that is why I am asking....go to bavauto.com and see for yourself. Sounds a little screwy to me. that is why I wanted feedback first.

personal experience Big Daddy? Sorry man.
Yes, 23 years in Law and Law Enforcement. I have held radar and Lidar certifications, testified in court as both a witness and "expert" witness. Never used photo radar so I cannot attest to the blur effect.

The theory is that police use the front license plate as the primary target for the radar since it's basically the flattest surface area on the front of the car and one that has a relatively high radar profile. Seems like a bunch of baloney since the radar can pick up the frame pretty easily and the angles on a car are not designed for radar stealth, but that' the theory.

Radar is used at baseball games on a ball no more than 2.5 inches in diameter... i dont think the size of shape matters!!!

Until they are building invisible to the eye cars that have the same design elements as this puppy, you wont be able to not show up on their radar system.

"The theory is that police use the front license plate as the primary target". You hit the nail on the head. In no radar, nor Lidar class was I ever instructed to aim at the license plate. It is an Urban Legend the radar detectors and funky license plate cover manufacturers started so you would buy their trash.

Your best bet is to invest some money into the whole radar detection crap, but not too much. Having a great radar detector still doesn't give you a license to speed. And even if you have a really great integrated radar detection setup, if you just constantly speed, you will definitely get caught.
Your best bet is to invest in an Escort Passport 8500 (perhaps the new X50 model) or a Valentine One and then stop there, unless you just have money to burn.
Radar detectors are pretty solid, but what if the cop just estimates your speed? Police officers are trained and certified to do that and a radar can't pickup their brain waves. [:o)]

Cops around here frequently pace you. Where they follow you and write you up a ticket based on their speedometer (which is checked for accuracy periodically). In CA at least, traffic laws are written so that they don't need intent which takes away pretty much every argument related to equipment failure/changes.

That sucks. All these states are getting hard-core about stopping speeders. Takes away the whole purpose of owning a BMW. What the hell is the average M3 owner supposed to do?

Go to a track [xx(]

and why do you say m3? I drove over the speedlimit all the time in the van.

I was asking about the "blurring" effect 'cause I am in Germany and very seldom...if ever do they use radar. I have however been photographed and filmed a few times by cameras set up on bridges and the side of the road. The add for these POS's says that at an angle they will blur the numbers on your plates. I try not to speed, but when the Autobahn is free with a new 530i, hell man!!!! I am like a fat kid with a cupcake.....ALL OVER IT.

The plate covers that are in bavauto I belive are intended to diffuse laser gun speed signals. With the laser, the cop has a narrower beam than radar, so they have to get something that can really reflect, like a license plate, headlights or a good angle of the windshield. But with laser, the cop has to stopped in a "trap" position, so covering up the plate wouldn't help much anyways (besides, I don't think laser is used very much, especially in the more rural places) The other plates are mostly intended for getting away from the red light cameras, and apparently , they DO work because lots of states are banning them. It works kinda like those plastic ribbed "changing picture" things you find in a crakerjack box, where at one angle you see one thing, but move it and you see another.
Just my two cents [idea]
