I've never had 2 cars under my name for insurance. How much will adding another car owned and driven by me make my insurance go up? Full price or do I get a break with 2 cars?

No, it's not twice the price or whatever. The pricing all depends on whether both cars are listed as like 'primary vehicles' or if one is a pleasure car or whatever. The rate per car also depends on what kind of car it is (insurance companies do know what cars are fast and what cars are not!).

There is a multiple car discount. And yeah, that "pleasure" car discount can be pretty big. Find out how strict your company is about checking. My agent is supposed to verify the mileage on our "pleasure" cars, but he just sends out a letter every renewal which we ignore. He then proceeds to forget about it too, even tho we may talk to him several times during that renewal period.

Once you find out, then put the more expensive to insure car as the "pleasure" car if possible. A good insurance agent will work with you to lower your rates as much as possible.

of all the years of getting quotes, and getting insurance for my family's cars,i don't remember the last time an insurance co actually checked to see if a car was actually "pleasure car"

there is a multi car discount. i'd imagine you'd put your m3 as a pleasure car, right? so the insurance on the m would drop. also if you have a beater as the other car, you can take the collision and other stuff out to lower the premiums even more. (obviously only works if you have a beater [:p])
