I finished up my repairs and finally go the car off the jackstands that have been holding it up for the past 2 weeks. I replaced the steering rack, and 1 tie rod (the other I kept since it was in fine condition... the one I didn't keep had a bad ball joint.)

The problem I am having is while driving, the steering feels 'over boosted.' If I am making a turn while moving, and let go of the wheel, it will continue to turn further in the direction I initially turned the wheel, instead of back to the center. I do realize my alignment is VERY off (eyed it up as best as possible.)

What could be the problem? I sure as hell hope it's not the rack, since I just put a new one on. If I'm sitting in the driveway without moving, I do not have this problem with the steering.

The problem exists anywhere over 5 mph. Anyone have a clue??

You just need an alignment. When i changed my steering rack i did a self alignment and it did the same thing. I messed with it a little bit to make it a little better but it never really felt "right". Well i bought new tires at the same time, and they wore within 3 weeks on one side. They were destroyed. SO i got it aligned and all my steering problems were fixed.

So just get an alignment, it should be fine. Right now you are destoying your tires... do it soon... i wish i did, 120 dollars tires.

Got mine done at the steerer bacause everyone else said they couldn't do it. 100 dollars...

Got the alignment and it's fixed.

I got it at NTB... i always said i'll never let NTB, pepboys, etc. touch my car... but i got despirate as my regular mechanic (well, the mechanic who WOULD be my "regular mechanic" if i would have ever gone to a mechanic...) wasnt in today.

Tomorrow, getting it inspected and the emissions. Thankyou, pennsylvania.

was it an e30 rack that you kept?
It might be an E30...it might be an E36, or maybe an E46. What do you want it to be???
I think I've had too much to drink and the night is still young. [drinking]
