power degradation

Hi,

I drive a 2000 E46. I recently gave it to BMW dealership for some oil change and replacement of few bulbs, and to my surprise the cars performance has been altered. If i push it hard enough it still flys; however, at regular highway speed it is not very responsive. It requires me to down shift almost always to accelerate a little bit. So, my question is if any one knows if the dealership changes anything that might affect the power of the car, like air filter, during regular oil service.

Any help would be much appreciated

The oil level is normal.

The dealer has the following description for the oil service:
MA10 Engine oil service / E46 exc activated
Carbon Filter. 538 CP 0.5

Does any one know what the carbon filter is?

What dealership was this? Please tell me you didn't take it to BMW of Manhattan, if you didn't thank God, NEVER go there.

What exactly do you mean by power degradation, was it exclusively after the oil change?

As for you question about problems from BMW of Manhattan, let me list a few. They gave me a loaner car with tires that lost air, and a FLAT spare tire. Not to mention the preignition car's engine shakes when turning it off, and vibrates when turning and giving gas. Also the transmission slipped on a cold morning start, and the rear window defogger didn't work correctly. As if it wasn't already enough that they sold me a car with a slipping transmission.

My car was in for a transmission replacement which the lying service director told me would be brand new off the assemblyline, and turned out to be (and feel) remanufactured. Only in order to do that their incompetent mechanics for some reason couldn't drop the tranny from the bottom of the car they had to pull out the whole engine, and now it's back in tilting slightly to the rear. (crooked) And my handbrake has issues, along with my steering wheel buttons (volume/cruise control) no longer function AFTER BRINGING it to BMW of manhattan. And the remanufactured transmission they put in has problems too! (annoying sound, crack-click putting it in park, etc..) It's wonderful, you bring the car in for one problem and come out with more than you started with.

To make the long story short BMW Manhattan= Bad Service, if I were you I would file a complaint with BMWNA and tell them you're fed up with bmw manhattan's shoddy work, if thats the case, it certainly is mine.

Oh and they scratched my car too on top of all this; they sure took the cake.

"E46 exc activated carbon filter" : exc stands for exchange.....The carbon filter is the filter for incoming air into the HVAC system. It is located under the hood in the area closest to the passenger compartment, in that long black plastic casing with the screw fasteners on it. The filter is impregnated with activated carbon to absorb odors. Very nice. It looks dirty when it is new and old from the carbon. You need to look at it some time, it is pretty cool.
