Agreed, but it's not really intended to compete with the Z4. Much, much cheaper (about $20,000 I believe), and it's a naturally aspirated 4 banger. It could be a really great little car, but it could also be a disaster. We'll have to wait and see.
I agree not real competition. But I do think there is a lot substitute creation going on to create the image of an “equal” in perception, a lot like Hyundai and KIA have tried to do in the likeness of MB.

Very true, very true. I think GM may be trying to create the appearance of an equal competitor, especially by the looks of the interior of the Solstice. The Solstice is a direct result of the successfulness of cars like the Z3/Z4, even if it isn't direct competition. But, also remember that the Z3 was the direct result of the successfulness of the Miata. The Miata is what really opened the door to the highly successful modern roadster.
By the way - what's with all the stupid car names the domestic manufacturers have been coming up with lately?
It wouldn't take much. Those were bad, bad cars. I think they are pretty neat little cars, but man were there ever problems with them. That's what happens when you half-ass it and adapt an existing drivetrain into a rear engined layout instead of designing the car in its entirety from the ground up. One of GM's many mistakes.
To be honest I would buy one! It seems like a good idea. GM although in the past has had a horrible service track record I tihnk this car might be a hit. They could easily factory supercharge the motor if they wannted, and no one seems to make a rear drive car for under 20 grand....
Hopefully their quality will be a little higher than GM cars I have driven in the past, but knowing GM I doubt it...
I like the car, its very fun looking. It is basicly a competitor to the Miata at its price point but it still attracts higher customers including RX8. I know GM has been rilly proud of the Kappa platform on which the Solstice sits on. The frame is supposed to be very stiff and sporty, not to mention rear wheel drive, something GM dosent tipicaly do. Unfornitaly the Saturn concept that sat on the Kappa platform isnt going to come to the market due to concern over reducing the Solstice's sales, a shame because it was a great looking car. I cant wait to test drive one next fall when it comes out.
yuck, both are ugly as sin. that saturn especially, gross. saturn has some cool styling, especially how they have some unique things like 4 spoke rims that go nice on the car....but the Curve is just gross
there are a few nice, dependable cars are under 20k. neon srt4, protege es, mazda3, ranger xlt, svt focus, etc...i dont think price is what is the concern, its the engine performance.
Old topic resurfaced....could someone please watch the original Robocop for me and tell me if that Saturn pictured here looks like that SUX200 in the movie. I am asking here..not making a statement. I haven't seen that movie in about 10 years.
