anyone have or heard of the phatnoise mp3 player that takes place of the cd changer? is it any good? i was thinking about adding it to my 2004 330i instead of the cd changer so i don't have to keep going into the trunk to change out cds. it's listed on bavauto site.

I bought one and returned it. Although the integration with the stock system is great, the sound quality was terrible. I suspect this may have had something to do with the included BlitzSafe adapter.

In any case, PhatNoise showed Phatbox 2.0 @ CES. It is expected to be available in Q3 2004. Additional features include WiFi transfers to your PC when your car is parked in your garage, iPod integration, CompactFlash socked and the usual HD cartridge.

The Phatbox plugs into the factory CD-Changer cable in the trunk through a custom BlitzSafe adapter box.

I tested the Phatbox with FLAC encoded files. These use lossless compression and should sound identical to a CD. Unfortuanately, the sound was very muddy which I think can be attributed to the BlitzSafe adapter.
