Hey Guys! I need some recommendations for this problem.

We just relocated from WI to KS this past winter. We are selling (closing finally) our house up there, and renting an apartment down here for the time being. Sadly at our apartment complex, there is no covered parking. We experienced our first midwest hail storm and ouch! Hail damage to both vehicles! It is covered under insurance, so no real biggie, but near the end of this month when we will be purchasing a new(er) BMW, and I obviously want to keep it well protected until we purchase a new house down here. Are there any types of protected coverings that work against hail? Anybody use anything like this currently? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

Little update. From what I can find online, I think I am screwed. I see lots that would work, but that only help against "light hail". There is no such thing as "light hail" from what I have seen in Kansas. Last night, more hail and more damage (which is good, vehicles don't go in until the 18th for inspection and insurance, so bring on the hail!).

Anyone have any recommendations other than buying a house ASAP for the car?

Portable garage like the ones sold at Costco. No cloth cover is going to protect your car from hail damage unless you put a sleeping bag on the roof first. Best of luck.

I think that will be my only shot, but I think that a) My apartment complex won't like it or won't let me and b) someone else's dumbass will park under it. I was hoping to try to find some teflon like hybrid or something (million dollar idea..someone..take it..haha)..

Sounds like I guess I just better buy a house for the car..LOL

Expanding on Dan's sleeping bag comment, here's a thought - perhaps desparate, crazy and/or silly, but a possibility.

Buy TWO car covers, and make a car "quilt" . Put dense foam, neoprene, whatever, between the two covers, and stitch or contact cement them together. It'll be a bit heavy, but the practicality depends on how concerned you are about the hail damage.

Hey Dan, should we patent this and go to market??? LOL

Hmm..that is actually a really good idea! We need to do something once my wife's vehicle gets fixed and we get a bimmer. If that is what I need to do, well, I think it can be done and nothing too difficult...I think..
